The Falcon Hotel is one of Cornwall's oldest coaching inns. It is not the cheapest place to stay, 2006 prices were £52.50 per person (off peak) per night B & B. The hotel has a website which contains information on the hotel, tariff etc (www.falconhotel.com).

The hotel is sited in a prime location for the centre of Bude, there is a Pub next door to the hotel. When we stayed in the hotel there was no particular noise from next door. The Beach is a three minute walk away

Our stay at the Falcon was enjoyable. It is true to say that it is a nice hotel. At first sight the hotel accomodation is priced on the slightly expensive side. That said the room we stayed in was spotlessly clean, recently refurbished. The sort of room one would expect a good 3* hotel to offer. The decor and furnishings were of a good quality and most importantly the room actually had some character to it.

The Service in the hotel itself was very good. All of the staff, whether in the bar or restaurant, were extremely helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. On the negative side there aren't lots of facilities in the hotel. It is however very central.

Where the Falcon excelled itself however was in the quality of the food. The Breakfast was well cooked, although to be fair there are a number of hotels in the region which produce equally good breakfasts. Where the Falcon surpassed the opposition was both in its' Restaurant food and in the Bar Food. The Restaurant is set formally. The quaity and indeed quantity of the food is exceptional. A group of four of us ate in the Restaurant, the fish platter was almost a pound and a half of exceptionally cooked fish, the Scallops were double the quantity of the average Restaurant, The Lamb was cooked to perfection. The Wine List was reasonably priced, Chateau Bottled Margaux only £5 more expensive than at the average wine merchants. The Service was exceptional even down to the complimentary jugs of iced water on the tables. The Home made Treacle Tart was awesome. It has to be said that whilst the hotel rooms may be a little on the expensive side the Restaurant is not and offers real value for money. I have eaten at the 5* Imperial and at the Falcon, whilst the Falcon food wasn't as flash it was every bit as well cooked and prepared and a fraction of the price.

The bar food is almost as good. We ate fresh battered fish and home cut chips followed by home made sticky toffee pudding (they had sold out of the treacle tart...)

In some ways I view the Falcon as being an excellent restaurant with some rather nice bedrooms.

Am I going back. Too right I am, I want some more home made treacle tart, its' addictive . I checked out intending to go back
