Sometimes I get wound up when I know people are dissing Faliraki. So here's a Non-Biased Opinion of mine.
Faliraki is like any other tourist destination: Its popular, Its got clubs, restaurants many hotels and lots of british people. Being Rape Captial made my heart sink. Because its not Falirakis fault? Young people are binge drinking in the famous Bar Street and then walking home alone. Wherever you are in the world look after youself. The same would probably happen if i were to be drunk in turkey!
Location: Located Very close to Rhodes Town which has everything From Shops such a 3 Floored 'Zara' To many other local fashion shops. Faliraki itself is on the beach and is a very popular location, Bus services are great which means you can catch a bus to Rhodes town and it takes you 10 minutes. Rhodes is like any other mediterranean Island and has dusty roads in rural areas! I Had to laugh when i saw dusty roads as being a disadvantage :S..not the main
roads But just abandoned side roads!
Facilities: Faliraki has everything for all different types of people. The scenery is absolutely amazing and turkeys coast can be seen in clear weather, there's a fabulous harbour and a small chapel which you can go in, and maybe light a candle for a loved one. the beach is very long and watersports can be found every few metres! Most of these watersports belong to my family/friends and godparents. Ringo's Banana Boats, Double Banana Boats And banana boats which can carry 12 people are available, aswell as 'Flyfish' and jet skis and parasailing. Bungee jumping is also there! There are many sunbeds however need to be paid for, after 5 however it is free.
There are many restaurants including Steak house's, 2 chinese restaurants, A Mexican restaurant, traditional greek ones and also plenty of places to have pizza! Traditional greek restaurants will always be my favourite - Pork souvlaki is a must. with abit of tzatziki! Yum Yum. Also there is a great bar called 'the canon bar'..George (the owner) goes diving for octopus and cooks it fresh and serves it for free to all the customers!..on his diving journeys many years ago he found a canon along with the canon ball, hence the name of the bar!
Hotels are scattered all over the place from very nice posh ones to cheap yet amazing ones. I love to stay in Antonios apartments. Although it isnt all inclusive you can still eat at the bar as there is a kitchen. Burgers and pizzas are available. There is also a cooker in your room which means you can do it yourself if you'd like.
Public pools are everywhere aswell and you are welcome to them all, even if you are not staying in that hotel! on a night time there are many karaoke's and greek nights in many of the hotels which are a must see.
The part of faliraki which gets its bad name is the famous bar street, and club street. these are the official street names because of ..well...the bars and clubs!. bar street is full of many clubs and there is also a Liquid round the corner..with 2 floors both with different music. it really is a good party destination. further down barstreet there is also Mcdonalds..and TGI Fridays! There are many tattoo parlours and souvenier shops along bar street, which then leads you onto the beach!
Slingshot. With slingshots scattered around the world there is one in lovely faliraki. I've been on it 3 Times and im only 16. Its great, especially if you buy one of the videos!
Faliraki is great for sight seeing and walking. At night times due to the side streets it is advised to avoid them, unless in a group. Faliraki is loved by my nannan and grandad!...which tells you its a great destination for even older people.
In the summer it can get extremely hot. I visited Rhodes every october and it was boiling!...i then visited in august and woah was it hot!, i do love the sun though.
Faliraki's beach is not very suitable for disabled people in wheelchairs. My uncle couldnt visit the beach at all as it would cause alot of mess. However most restaurants have ramps for wheelchairs.
There is also a choochoo train at the bottom of bar-street which takes you round the whole of faliraki square!..Which is a great ride for everybody!...even radio plays whilst your feeling falirakis open air.
Faliraki is a great experience and is for everybody! Hope you visit one day!
