Give Him Time

Advantages: Has potential. Good record in Formula 3000
Disadvantages: Lacks FI race experience;uncompetitive car

Fernando Monso is driving the European Minardi PS01 for the 2001 season so it would be unrealistic to expect him to finish the season among the leading points scorers. Indeed, Fernando will do well for the Minardi team if he can finish races and,as a big bonus, score an occasional high enough placing for a championship point or two. That I believe are Paul Stoddart's,the new Australian owner of Minardi, primary objectives for the popular Italian team. Fernando from Spain was last season's Minardi test driver so he is familiar with the PS01 and with some of the Grand Prix circuits. He did finish fourth previously in the FIA International Formula 3000 Championship with Team Astromega and a number of pundits have been impressed with the driving ability and race craft shown by the young Spaniard. Indeed for a driver who showed he was ...

Review of Fernando Alonso

Spanish champion of the Future

Advantages: Great driver
Disadvantages: Inexperienced and young

Young Fernando in in his first season in the premier league of Motorsport. Its a bit Like Rushden and Diamonds coming up into the football league. Much is promised of this youngster but can he perform. One thing is for sure, he wont be winning for Minardi. Minardi are a small tail end team with no money. Their car is good but it is underpowered and slow. What it does have is star drivers of the future cutting their teeth in Formula One. If you can scrape a Minardi off the back row of the grid and up to 20th place or above, you must be good. This is how I see Fernando. To be honest, he has been slightly overshadowed this year by another bright prospect at Sauber, Kimi Raikonnen. Where Raikonnen has posted points and quick lap times, Alonso has outqualified and outpaced his older and more experienced team mate, Tarso Marques ...

Review of Fernando Alonso

From Madrid to Liverpool, Via Monaco

Advantages: Strong in the air and good on the ground. Proven Goal scorer
Disadvantages: Has taken him a bit of time to adjust to the British Game, little bit too Greedy at times

The Spanish revolution seems to be in full flow at Liverpool these days. In fact there are probably times last season when more Spaniards were on the pitch at Anfield than for certain teams actually in Spain. One of Rafa Benitez better signings has to be the former Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes. He arrived at Anfield in January of this year and despite being cup tied for the European run he still looked like a decent striker and an excellent signing in the Premiership. Having started his career pottering around a few of the smaller non league teams in Spain he caught the eye of Albacete. After 2 seasons and playing 22 games for Albacete and scoring 5 goals he moved on to the top division in Spain after the chance to play for Real Zaragoza came about in 1995. At the age of just 20 he broke into the Zaragoza first team almost ...
