WELCOME TO THE AGE OF SCIENCE (Natural History Museum)

Advantages: nteresting, educational, fun, something for everybody above the age of 2, free
Disadvantages: NONE

I was delighted to find out that National History Museum (as well as Science museum) became completely free of charge some time between 1992 when I last visited and now. As soon as my daughter was big enough to say dinosaur I took here there on one of our day London trips and we spent about 2.5 hours wandering about the collections. The building itself makes it worth a visit, now beautifully cleaned to reveal Neo-Gothic glory of the intricate multi-coloured facade where the sculptures depict members of the animal kingdom rather than gargoyles. Welcome to the beginnings of the science age. The Natural History museum comprises Life Galleries, covering mostly animal life (a lot of them extinct) and Earth Galleries, covering subjects like geology, volcanoes, minerals and the like. Please note that there is very, very little plant related ...

The Booth Museum, Brighton

Advantages: Free admission, lots to see
Disadvantages: None for me

of the first identification field guides and still are today. The science of natural history might have come a long way today, especially with the use of DNA but without the vast collections like this one at the Booth Museum none of that might have ever happened. The Booth Museum is open at the following times: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday 10am-5pm Sunday 2pm-5pm Facilities include a small gift shop that is strategically located at the reception in the entrance meaning that you need to pass by this when you first enter the museum and also again when you leave. There are toilets that are equipped for disabled visitors and there is also a reference room/library. Admission is free so if you are in the area and this sounds like your sort of thing then pay it a visit as it is highly recommended by me. Booth Museum of Natural ...

Review of Booth Museum of Natural History (Brighton)

My favourite museum in London

Advantages: learning was never so much fun - free entrance - amazing museum
Disadvantages: could be crowded... that's all

Natural History Museum of London is perhaps one of my favourite museums in the World. Whenever I'm in London I try to visit it. The museum is in a "cathedral" building. This creation was deliberately designed by Alfred Waterhouse to inspire awe... and it does. It's even hard to photograph because it's very big compared to the surrounding area. The elaborate Romanesque style is impressive as the giant cast of Diplodocus skeleton in the main hall of the Life Galleries. This museum makes learning fun! They have amazing galleries and a vast collection (70 million plants, animals, fossils, rocks and minerals to be exact) including dinosaurs (also a real-size animatronic Tyrannosaurus Rex roaring at you) and Creepy Crawlies gallery. Also impressive is a giant tree slice on top of the stairs in the hall which dates from 557 to 1892 when ...
