The trip of a lifetime which I'll never forget!
Advantages: Lots of trips to go on and things to do, the people in Finland are friendly Disadvantages: Very far away from any shops
I first saw pictures of Lapland in an aeroplane magazine coming from a holiday with my boyfriend and thought "wow I'd love to go there". It isn't just for kids, as I found out its just as much for adults as it is the children. My boyfriend and I booked it for December but we had to book early as places in Lapland get booked pretty quickly for Christmas. And I would recommend going before Christmas, it adds to the excitment more I think rather than ... ...the hotel (every hotel in Lapland does the same) loaned everybody special body suits to wear over our clothes. At first I thought there was no point but they came in so useful. They protect your normal clothes from getting dirty and also they're water-proof which is important because as the temperature is so cold it is important not to get wet or let your feet get wet. There are more trips than these to do as well, if you are interested in skiiing ...

Tampere, The best city in Finland
Advantages: Small heart in big city Disadvantages: (road to Turku !)
...oon tampereelt naas" ("I'm from Tampere, you see") Some famous people (don't know who but..) has said that "you go to Tampere to born and after that you conquer whole world" Well I want to see myself like that, I born in Tampere and now after many years I live in UK.First 9 year in my life I live in Hervanta, what was due that time new suburban area, with young families, now its full of criminals, even only police school of Finland is locate in there ... ...side of Tampere, I grow up in very safe and children friendly area, that what is still. I went my school in city central and spend later many nights partying in clubs and bars in Tampere. Tampere is well known as University City. Tampere got two universities, University of Tampere (UTA) and Tampere University of Technology (TUT) last on located in Hervanta. Each university has over 10,000 students. In Tampere you also got opportune to study music ...

our second visit to finnish lapland
Advantages: has lots fo offer Disadvantages: is more built up than other resorts
...time we ended up in levi - were initially were not pleased about this as we longed to go back to yllas which was just such a magical holiday - anyhow - the transfer from kittila was about 15 mins, we got taken to our allocation on arrival accommodation which turned out to be a massive 5 bedroomed log cabin - truely stunning and what a bargain too
levi itself is a town, by UK standards it's a very, very small town but in Finnish lapland standards ... ...a good holiday and it levi does have a lot to offer, it has a great ski resort which has a lot to offer for all levels, it has a lot of resturants, shops and bars to go to should you want to, it does not have the village remote feel that yllas has but it still is magical in it;s own way - I think this place is a good bet for families with older children who can go for a burger etc on their own or with friends or for people who want to have more options ...

3 trips here - there must be something great about it
Advantages: magical walks through the woods Disadvantages: maybe getting a but too commercial?
we went to yllas for christmas 07 and we decided to that for value for money it was far better to go on a week holiday there with inghams rather than the shorter santa breaks our flight was very early and from bristol, flying into kittila - we went with inghams and booked to stay in a log cabin self catering
the transfer from the airport was about an hour and the roads are very straight - we arrived at our little cabin which was like a little row ... ...and about 5 sets of rows, the cabin was called lumpunko and is classified as the yllas log cabins with inghams yllas is a traditional lappish village, it is very spread out and you do have to walk a lot to get anywhere - this is something that we loved, it was just the most magical experience walking through the woods in the snow, the children running about and rolling in the snow, it was just the most magical holiday I thought I would ever have

Turku - worth a little work
Advantages: Superb bars, laid back, friendly Disadvantages: Fewer things open in off season, not for lazy visitors
Situated in south west Finland, Turku is the closest major city to Sweden, and as such is often regarded with some suspicion by residents of other parts of the country; in particular it is the focus for some considerable rivalry with the city of Tampere some two hours or so north (which seems to me just too far to have any kind of point).
Turku is a seaport and it is used by many holiday makers a as base for exploring what is known as the south ... ...available all year round.
Turku was capital of Finland until Helsinki took the title in 1812; sadly, few of the medieval buildings still exist and this makes it visually less appealing than some of the other Baltic cities such as Tallinn or Helsinki. This does mean that Turku is a place where you have to work a little for your entertainment; there are attractive places to wander or to sit and people watch but on the whole you do have to make a bit ...
