... And I don’t know about you, but the thought of sitting gazing into my beloved’s eyes whilst the lagered-up rabble beside me sang ‘The Wild Rover’ at full volume didn’t really appeal to my sense of occasion!
So we brought the date forward, and had our yearly ... Read review

Advantages: Ludicrously tasty fish dishes, great service, quite frankly orgasmic sticky toffee pudding Disadvantages: Price, I guess, but quality this good doesn't come cheap
...last night, in the wonderful Fishers Bistro. For Edinburgh virgins: Fishers is, you guessed it, a seafood restaurant down on the shore of Leith. Its huge popularity has resulted in a new branch opening up here in town, called Fishers in the City. (hmmm - visions of a haddock wearing Manolo Blahniks and sashaying down Fifth Avenue come to mind). Anyway, we chose the city branch for our night out as it was easier to get to, and let’s face it ... ...only had one lunch’. Would Fishers make my dreams come true?
Oh of course they did. From the moment we entered the restaurant til the moment we left, this evening was *special*.
The restaurant itself is tucked away down Thistle Street – it’s very central, but may be hard for tourists to find (hurrah!), so if you’re new in town then best consult a map. There is a very small bar area as you enter, and then you are led upstairs ...

A Shore Thing! Review ofFishers Bistro, Edinburghby
lizzielocky
Advantages: Fresh fish, location. Disadvantages: Two sittings for dinner.
Fishers in the City let us down the last time we had a family dinner there. Did that get us down? Well yes, momentarily, there might have been a dodgy oyster or two. But we sprang back and took our mother (she's 78 you know) to the original and vastly superior Fishers Bistro, down at The Shore in Leith, to celebrate her birthday.
We began with a cocktail or two sitting outside Malmasion (depuis 1994), enjoying the sights (upmarket hen weekenders), ... ...was a short stroll to Fishers Bistro, where the smells significantly improved: garlic, fresh fish and that intangible warm tang of good food cooking that one normally only experiences in that little cafe in ............. [insert memorable holiday culinary experience here].
I didn't memorise the menu so I can't list all the choices and anyway since everything was very seasonal, it will have all changed by the time you get there. BUT the oysters were ...

It's been a while since Fishers has been reviewed here, so time for an update I guess, with a quick note: there are two Fishers in Edinburgh, both owned by the same people. One is located in the Shore near Leith, the other on Thistle Street practically in the centre of the city. This review is of the Shore establishment.
There is something particularly gratifying about restaurants that are totally unassuming, but which deliver wonderment to your ... ...It must be said that Fishers doesn't have a downtrodden appearance, but takes on the look of a simple bar - no garish modern minimalist facade in sight. Walking in you are indeed faced with a bar, a few high tables dotted around the entrance, with the main eating area off to your left.
With a name like Fishers, and being located in the marine surroundings of Leith it should come as no surprise to learn that the speciality here is seafood (indeed ...

Fab fish Review ofFishers Bistro, Edinburghby

Advantages: Disadvantages:
Fishers Bistro is a great little restaurant on The Shore of Leith. On my last visit I enjoyed Fisher’s own fish cakes a deliciously hearty starter, followed by langoustines with garlic butter. Both were absolutely wonderful. My dining partner enjoyed fresh mussels and then traditional sirloin. The mussels were beautifully cooked and came with a wonderful cream and wine sauce. The food was reasonably priced with starters ranging between £4-6 and main ...

I love Malmaison's brasseries. The boutique hotel chain's eateries have a really fantastic buzz about them. I think the atmosphere that they have managed to achieve is mainly due to their amazing ability to hire incredibly nice people.

Are you a fan of musicals? Well, I love them and so do my daughters. In fact, my sixteen-year-old is aiming for a career in musical theatre and has a beautiful singing voice. So our house has plenty of musical CDs. My own collection even includes Chicago more
Edinburgh is one of those cities near enough for us to visit for a weekend, and with enough attractions and shops to keep us all busy. So, we tend to go a couple of times a year.
I usually book online, and because I don’t know the city well, it’s... more
When I and my partner decided to have children, nowhere in the manual did it mention running around with spray and cloth and holding child at arms length while urine was projected in an arch formation and that would be the easy bit!
