Flamingo Land Opening Times (usually March to October) Prices: £22 per adult, Senior Citizens/Disabled Visitors/Carers £11 each, Under 3's free. Family ticket £82 (any 4 people but offer is not eligible with Tesco Deals Tokens), QBuster is an additional £5 per person to prices listed. NB: prices correct for 8th March to 2nd November 2008.
Further information 0871 9118000 or www.flamingoland.co.uk and you can book online at www.flamingolandtickets.com (where you get a slight discount which when I checked it out for my October 2008 holiday was £20 each for adults).
I would recommend the Tesco Deals tokens as I got £70 of tokens (valid at several theme parks) for about £17 or £18 worth of Club Card vouchers (and then had to pay £18 to it, a total of about £36, instead of £88 for 4 adults and a baby. This works out at about £8 per person instead of £22!
Check out what colour day you are on too, as they have a Sea Lion show, bird show, african acrobat show, and Professor Bubbles show - we were there on a green day which meant there
were less shows per day. As we never seemed to be in the right location at the right time for any of the shows, we didn't see any and can not comment on their content. We did however spend all day from 10am when it opened to at least 4pm at this theme park so it was well worth it and we were never bored or stuck for something to do.
Be prepared for plenty of walking, as although there are plenty of trains, monorails and other forms of transport, it is still necessary to walk between rides and to various sections of the park, if you want to see different animals or try particular rides. Wear sensible shoes too, as there are water rides so it can be slippy in places.
We went along the Tree Top walk, which was new for 2008 according to the map leaflet we were given on entering the park, and the 2 fellas I went with also saw a show at the 4 dimension cinema (also a new attraction), whilst Michelle and I sat looking after her exhausted 17 month old son Mark. We were going to take him on a kid's ride but he was fast asleep at the time, so we sat near the Carousel instead - enjoying the beautiful sunshine (a rarity in October!!!!)
On arrival at the park due to being just opened for the day, we were able to park quite close to the entrance. If you need to get back to your car, at any time, you can be stamped so you can re-enter the site. This was a good idea, but it was like a large orange paw print, which we struggled to get off and I could still see a faded version of it later in the week despite baby wipes and good old fashioned soap and water!! We used this facility to obtain our picnic rather than carry it all day.
The map provided has pictures of people on it, with a corresponding number on it, where each ride is. The colour of the person determines who can ride on it (e.g. blue is unrestricted i.e. anyone and yellow is minimum height 3ft6/1.07m unless with an adult) These go up to a minimum height of 4ft6. The number of the ride is then listed in an area such as Plaza, Splosh or Metropolis.
Mark was therefore able to go on lots of rides, if an adult was with him. He wasn't keen on the Balloon race which went quite high and round and round. He liked wagon Wheels (a big wheel ride, until it went too high) and loved the Tractor Ride and Helitoys which he went on with his dad.
The 2 men enjoyed Wild Mouse (a rollercoaster) and Splash Battle (a wet ride where you squirt other riders and people stood nearby! They were however disappointed that there wasn't an Adult version of Junior Driving School or even a go kart section. Mark couldn't go on the Driving School as it had an age limit on in not a height restriction.
Michelle enjoyed the Wagon Wheels and seeing all the different animals, as well as the train and monorails. She'd have liked to have seen the shows, but we did not seem to have enough time. We did go to see the creatures of the deep exhibition where you could see the sea lions and other sea creatures.
I enjoyed Splash Battle and the Balloon ride, but wanted a go on the cycle monorail but we didn't find the entrance to this ride. As it was October, not all the rides/sideshows were open all the time - we noticed that some were open then shut before we got to them, e.g. hook a duck. We also commented that the ice cream kiosk wasn't open - to sell drinks or icecreams, etc, despite the warm sunny day.
We used the train and walked past various animals to reach the Tree Top walk and visited the Monster's Den of Mischief area, which had a farm, reptile house and the Bird Show. We used the monorail to get to the Metropolis area - this was a one way ride, whereas the train went in a circle. The sign said single trips only so if you want to go back you'd have to get off and get back on for the monorail (People Moover)
We didn't see the Zoo monorail working near the Baboons so didn't use this. The other transport available was a cable car but we never saw this going either. We didn't think Mark's push chair would have fitted inside this though!
After lunch and the 4D cinema, we explored the Splish Splosh area and if you've got young children, I'd heartily recommend the Waterfront. It has a small cafe, shop and toilets are, with HMS Bouncy - a ship for children only to climb on and explore (once they've taken their shoes off). At the side of this were small ball pools and other items for children to play with that looked like rock pools and parts of a ship. Mark had great fun with the ball pools, whilst his mum and I had a drink nearby. Wouldn't recommend the coffee, though - very strong and not very hot, and expensive too.
You can purchase for £1 a rain mac in order to go on the wet rides in this shop, which we did to go on Splash Battle.
Really enjoyed this location and would go back in a few years to see if it has got any good new attractions, but would try to use Tesco Deals again to save money!!

I also went here while on holiday in Oct 2008! Enjoyed it but have been to better places. I liked how you could see the animals while you were on the rides. Well written review, very helpful xx
