Flamingo Land (now Flamingoland) is situated in Malton, North East Yorkshire and is a holiday resort, theme park and animal sanctuary. The park is set in 375 acres (1.52 km2) of North Yorkshire countryside, in the Ryedale district with views of the Yorkshire Moors. It is famous for having the largest zoo in the UK and for having some of the best rides in the country. It also subsequently has one of the largest privately owned holiday camping sites. The resort itself has a gym, a leisure centre, a spa, a golf course and holiday accommodation.

I really can't rave about this wonderful park enough. Flamingo Land is perfect in almost every way deemed possible in the theme park industry. Those lucky enough to visit this marvel park will grant you the same prosperous comments I am feeding now- it is simply a wonderful park. The park has both a large theme park and a zoo that sort of merge into one giant resort. The zoo has all sorts of animals and unlike other large zoos in the UK allows you to roam free on foot without having to have a vehicle to transport you. The park has the largest pride of lions in the country and the king of the herd, Kumali is becoming somewhat of a celebrity! The park also has giraffes, penguins, wild birds, flamingos, zebras, camels, elephants, meercats, monkeys, tigers, rhino's and hippopotamuses. The zoo is fantastic for everyone in the family and the animals really do look comfortable and happy. The keepers are always friendly and are happy to have a gander about where each animal came from before it was brought to the park. The zoo alone makes Flamingo Land one of the best tourist attractions in the country.

The theme park area (which is vastly expanding) is also something of wonders. With rides like a compact Vekoma Suspended Looping Coaster and a Vekoma Launch Motorbike Coaster, the park is becoming recognized as the new thrill seekers paradise. Kumali (based on the lion in the park) loops riders four times and twists and turns at speeds of up to 55mph. The ride is 115ft tall. Velocity is the tallest and fastest launch coaster themed on a motorbike race in the world. Suitable for younger thrill seekers as well as white knuckle lovers, this ride always brings in a happy crowd. New for 2009 is 'Mumbo Jumbo' the worlds tallest, fastest beyond vertical drop coaster. This ride thawed Thorpe Park's claim with 'Saw: The Ride' being the steepest drop. Other thrill rides include 'Flip Flop' a Frisbee swing ride and 'Cliff Hanger' the UK's tallest S&S shot and drop tower ride. Lets not forget the famous Corkscrew roller coaster and the Wild Mouse!! In terms of thrill rides and unique coasters, Flamingo Land delivers! There is also more than plenty to do for younger guests. 'Splash Battle' is a new interactive water ride where you get to soak your rivals. Parents and children can enjoy this attraction together. Another fun ride is the 'Lost River Ride' which is a water ride that transports you around some of the animal enclosures before dropping you 60ft into a lagoon below- you will get wet! This is one amazing ride and should enchant and thrill everyone. It is also suitable for younger riders. 'The Navigator' is a spinning whirling thrill ride suitable for young thrill seekers. This dizzying attraction should not be missed for those daring enough to join the queue!

I found Flamingo Land to be a very good theme park. There is just so much to do for everyone. The only flaws I could find were either the long queue times on the larger rides or the high food prices (always a moan at theme parks.) The price to get in is £23 for adults AND children, however once inside there is plenty to see and do to cover the costs. I wouldn't miss this place for the world!

Would I recommend Flamingo Land? I most certainly would. This had to be one of the best days out we had on our theme park travels. Make sure you take time out to spend the day or possibly even the night in this resort.
