Fletcher Moss is a lovely park, and I'm not just saying that because I live round the corner from it. Although it doesn't have swings or slides, it does have a botanical garden which is really, really peaceful. There are a number of large playing fields, each with a different use. There are places for everyday activities and rugby and football fields too. The river can be very beautiful and it is amazing if you go and sit on the bank in the middle of summer. There isn't too much dog poo or litter and you don't feel unsafe like you might in some other parks, mentioning no names (Fog Lane). There aren't the usual gangs of teenagers who want to beat your head in and that definitely makes a good change.
Advantages: Free entrance. Disadvantages: Only eight car parking spaces.
HISTORY AND LOCATION:
Fletcher Moss Gardens can be found on the A5145 next to Old Cock Inn, Didsbury, Manchester M20. It is located behind St James Church, and in the 1900 was known as Didsbury Farm. The garden was given to the City in 1914 by Alderman Fletcher Moss (hence its name) who lived in the nearby parsonage. Here you can enjoy 21 acres of park and gardens, which are laid out on a hill. FACILITIES AND ATTRACTIONS:
The following sporting ... ...which is situated adjacent to Fletcher Moss, and next door to Didsbury Parish Church. The Parsonage and its gardens are boarded by a high wall. The Orchid houses are situated within the gardens and are home to many rare and beautiful specimens.
