My Florence experience
Advantages: Must-go Italian city Disadvantages: No
...to Italy, I stayed in Florence for one and a half day. Let me share with you my fantastic experience of Florence. Florence is the cultural capital in the medieval time, and the key player in the Renaissance movement. A small city it seems, but the home of some of the most famous people in history-Michaelanglo, Leonardo da Vinci, Galileo etc, just to name a few. Again with narrow streets and allys, our first stop was a demonstration of leather. Italian/Florentine ... ...accessories are everywhere. Obviously, I didn't leave without getting some goods myself. After that, we had a walking tour with a local guide. Best known of all Florence's treasures is the Ponte Vecchio. This glorious bridge was the only one spared by the German attacks in the second World War. Today's bridge, built in the middle of the 14th century, was originally filled with a wide variety of shops that included wool merchants and greengrocers. ...

FLORENCE - Magic, in a Roundabout Way
Advantages: More art than you can wave a brush at Disadvantages: The crowds...oh, and the crowds
...all its glories. Florence is a dream destination for art-lovers - some of the planet's most famous works of art jostle for position in some of the greatest galleries of the world. I'd like to tell you a bit about some of these treasures, but I'm not going to. Not because I don't want to, but because I can't. I didn't see any! I'm afraid I wasn't willing to queue in blazing sunshine and temperatures in the mid-30's just to see some old paintings. ... ...of a Cathedral. Florence is an old city. A very old city. And unusually for such an ancient place, the old town is relatively flat and the streets relatively straight. It was still a bit of a maze to navigate though, which was proved beyond doubt when we arrived at the Piazza and gazed towards the marbled wonder. Neither of us was mightily impressed with this monument - we couldn't see what all the fuss was about. It was also suspiciously quiet all ...

Hotel Cellai Florence
Advantages: Beautiful City Disadvantages: Lots of walking
...from a weekend away in Florence and wanted to let others know about this lovely hotel. It is very near to Florence Central Station 10Eur taxi and just a short walk to the Duomo, Academia and San Lorenzo. The full address is VIA XXVII APRILE 14, FLORENCE, 50129, Italy.
The hotel costs about £122 per night (one room for two people) There is complimentary tea and cofee in the afternoon, with a comfortable roof garden to sit in. For cheap prices go ... ...do deals. The food in Florence is great there are restaurants on every corner. For a cheaper meal stick to back alleys as restaurants in the many Piazas can be expensive. I can recommend the ice-cream you can get a small cone for 2EUR which I thought was big enough or you can get a 'monster' cone with 4 scoops for about 12EUR. ...

A review for non art lovers
Advantages: Busy bustling city Disadvantages: too many similar shops
...entry). The city of Florence is full of narrow winding streets to explore, it is pretty small, so there is no danger of getting lost, just turn right a couple of times and you always seem to be back in the place you started from! The narrow streets are full of shops, lots of leather shops, too many to be honest, it would have been nice to have had a bigger variety to visit. They all have their siestas around lunch time and don't open again until ... ...the best places to go). Florence charges seperately for all of it's dishes, so what seems inexpensive can suddenly be more so, once you have added all your veggies on. The best place we found was Gusto Leo's behind the main square, full of italians which we think is always a good sign!
I can't tell you much about the night life as we did not do it! We spent our evenings in the restaurants. But there are plenty of young people around and from the ...

Additional notes on Florence
Advantages: Architecture, ambience Disadvantages: Cover charges in restaurants
...up on the hill overlooking Florence has an amazing view. It's very convenient for the city centre and can be reached on bus number 13 from the train station. It's 4.50 euro for a 24 hour bus ticket. REMEMBER! everywhere in Italy you buy a bus ticket from a tabacco / newagent shop them stamp it on the bus! The campsite is very busy in summer. It does not take bookings (for backpackers) so arrive early in the afternoon if possible. It's not the greatest ... ...you can't take the espresso (note: not eXpressso) try machiato (with a dob of frothy milk) or the more familiar latte.
A short review? Could have written more? Don't tell me. I'm not looking for blue dots! If you are going to Florence just mail me for more info! ...
