A Moveable Feast
Review of Paris in general by  From_The_Continent

Advantages: perfect city to be inspired by architecture, culture, shopping and fine cuisine
Disadvantages: just too many tourists, hope this review wont bring too many extra ones

...of alleys. And right through the middle flows the Seine [...], filled up with isles, bridges and boats." Today Hugo would maybe compare Paris to a black whole which absorbs everything around it. Paris constantly expands, and numerous districts have been added, but his orientation still applies to the city centre. And the roof of Notre Dame is a perfect place to overlook the roofs of Paris. Other spectacular panoramic views can be enjoyed from Montmartre, Tour Montparnasse, and the roofs of the Centre Pompidou and the Musée d'Orsay. Rather than exploring Paris from the centre, today it may be more helpful to seek orientation in an east-west axis along the Seine, reaching from La Defense in the west (built 100 years after his death) to the Bastille in the east, along the Champs Elysées and Rue de Rivoli. Then add Place Pigalle and Montmartre... Read review

Hotel Ibis Ornano, Montmartre, Paris
Review of Ibis Ornano Montmartre north, Paris by  tinabee

Advantages: Great value for money, great location and easy access
Disadvantages: None

...This hotel is great value for money. Situated very near to Montmartre it is an ideal base for seeing Paris on a budget. With good Metro access (Porte de Clignancourt) is only a couple of minutes walk, it is easy to get to from any of the main railway stations and easy to reach all of the attractions of Paris by Metro or bus. In the immediate area, there is a special bus service that will take you up the hill to Montmartre for a visit to the Sacre Coeur and the Place due Tertre where artists still gather. Then hop back on the bus to go to down the hill to the Place Pigalle, location of the Moulin Rouge. A Paris Visite travel card (available for 1 to 5 days) will give you travel on buses, Metro and trains across all of Paris. With many other attractions in the area, the Hotel Ornano is well situated for great bars and bistros, just... Read review

Budget accomodation in a 'lively' area of Paris
Review of Du Chat Noir, Paris by  littlemissy

Advantages: Well located for the Metro, cheap
Disadvantages: A bit tatty,extremely basic,noisy at night

...This is one of a series of ops about the Parisian holiday of Mortimus and I; our first together, and his first foreign holiday. This is only my second op so please go easy on me :-) So there we were, just stepped off the Metro at Pigalle, the station we had guessed was closest to our hotel. We were bright eyed and bushy tailed after our remarkably short journey, thanks to easyjet, and ready to experience all things Parisian despite it being almost midnight. We emerged from the dimly lit Metro station into the lights of the city. There were actually rather a lot of lights, in many different colours. Oh, they’re signs on the shops, gosh these shops are open late. Lets see if I can practise some French already…S E X S H O P I didn’t need my dictionary for that one. Nor for PORNOFILMS or PEEPSHOWS. Our hotel was in the middle of the red... Read review
