The Drivers Know The Track Almost Too Well |

Well, I may be a but premature writing this now, (it's only half way through the race!), but there has been an awful lot of action already...
The fun and games started in the practice sesions at the beggining of the weekend, with Minardi deciding to pull out of the race after having 3 catastrophic wing failures. They pulled both their cars out of the race for saftey reasons, not wanting this to happen again. One of their cars was travelling down the longest straight on the circuit, when the rear wing completly collapsed. This doesnt sound like much, I mean, he was going in a straight line, right? Wrong. On a normal road car wings (or spoilers) are generally there for cosmetic reasons. On a formula one car they are there to push the cars wheels on to the track, giving more grip. When the rear wing collapses, it causes the whole car to become unbalanced, and when you are travelling at nearly 200mph, its not good!
So, we have a whole team retirement before the race day even begins! So what else is to come? Well, there is big talk about Rubens Barichello doing well today, being second on the grid. However, this was not meant to be. The lights go for the formation lap, and shock horror, the Ferrari will not go in to gear, thats the end of his day. So, it looks like there may be a crack in Ferrari's seemingly unbreakable armour, only time will tell.
Yet another rear wing failure, this time from Kiki Raikonen. This was in the same place as the Minardi failures. There was no contact, so it might be a part failure. Whatever it is, its taken him out of the race, with parts out of it embedded in the rear suspension struts. Questions will be asked.
Coulthard looks to be doing a bit better than in his previous races (hes just moved from 4th to third making a brilliant move on Jensen Button), but I really shouldnt tempt fate, he has done well in all his races, until his car failed, so good luck to him!
That move on Button has caused some sort of damage to his car, with Button dropping back through the field, now down to 5, and losing time.
Disaster for the lolipop man in the williams team. He lifted the lolipop, Montoya went to go, but he put it back down beacuase the fuel line was still attatched. Montoya had already started moving when the lolipop man stepped forward, causing his foot to get run over.
The track itself is very good, with some tight turns, along with some very long, fast straights. The problem is that this is the track which a lot of teams do their testing on. This means that the drivers know the track very well, but as ive said, this by no means its a boring race!
