Melbourne in March means one thing.
The Formula One Circus is back on the road and its first stop is Australia.
How amny of you will be dragging yourselves out of bed in the early hours of Sunday morning to watch the race? I will be.
Adelaide was originally the last date on the calendar but Since moving to its new home after the end of 1995, the Australian Granp Prix has become the First prestige fixture of the year.
A lot of scandal and load of trouble were the first ingredients of the new circuit.
It cuts through a lot of woodland and park space in Melbourne and local residents put in many complaints. It appears they love it now.
Most of the year the dircuit is normal everyday roads until Late Feb when they turn it into the home of F1.
I remember the first year of action. There was an almighty crash on the first lap. Martin Brundle (now F1 ITV Commentator) was forced of the road and tumbled through the air and the car just disintegrated!
He got out ok though.
This year, teams will be under more competition than ever.
This year sees the return of a Tyre War.
Bridgestone are no longer the sole manufacturer and will be under stiff competition from Michelin.
Who will be the winner on the Melbourne grid?
I suspect it will be a Bridgestone shod Car as Michelin are newcomers. Look towards mid season for its first race win.
Which team will win in Melbourne? Lets look:

FERRARI:
Two excellent talents and defending champs. "The best car we have ever produced" they say.
"How far behind will Maclaren be" I say.
Barring reliability or accidents with idiot backmarkers, Definite winner
Evens Fav.

Maclaren:
A good chance but an unreliable Car in off season has dogged them. Memories of last year?
The two drivers seem to want different things and hence pull the team in 2 directions. The best to collect the spoils if Ferrari fall off.
5/2

Williams:
Fast Chargers Schumi Jnr and Montoya have a lot of speed and the new BMW engine will be even more punchy. Expect these boys to follow the 1st 4 home.
5/1

Jordan:
Equal powers with BAR in the engine dept mean a better chance of success. Two good drivers but not world beaters. They might scrape one of the last points.
7/1

BAR:
A lot of personnel changes and improved will to win from Jacques. I think he might suprise everyone and get on the podium. Panis will help rather than hinder.
7/1

Bennetton:
New Driver (Jenson Button) may end up throttling Fischichella as their famous feud continues. A new engine hampers their reliability.
10/1

Arrows:
Another suprise car. Looks gorgeous but the drivers lack any talent. Jos the boss cant deliver what is needed.
20/1

Jaguar:
Loking shaky still and no sign of improvement despite the funding and Eddie Ervine. I bet he regrets joining.
12/1

Sauber:
Ferrari powered again but this time with the unreliable Nick Heidfeld behind the wheel.
More chance than Prost and Minardi but not much.
200/1

Prost:
Oh Dear. Oh Dear Oh Dear. OH Dear Oh Dear Oh Dear. Backwards quickly with Alesi hitting things a lot.
No Chance
300/1

Minardi:
Lovely little car but no money and new owners.
Nice holiday for the mechanics for the next 6 months but thats all they will get.
500/1 (and only if all others fall off.)

So there is my guide and odds to Melbourne.
Look out for my Circuit guides throughout the season.
