How boring to go back to the same place again, but nonetheless, having spent two summer holidays based in Fort Lauderdale, I feel (slightly) qualified to assist you in choosing this as your next holiday destination. We flew to Miami from Heathrow with British Airways for just under £300 (end of April 2001). Last year we struggled with the Tri-rail commuter train to get us to Fort Lauderdale (only $5ish but we still needed a cab once we got there). This year we took the Super Shuttle (minibus-taxi hybrid) at $31 per person. My other half was attending a conference, so I had plenty of time to get myself aquainted with Sawgrass Mills (huge discount shopping mall on the outskirts of town) and The Galleria (smaller regular priced mall in the centre, close to the main beach area). Besides the extensive cheap shopping, there are several touristy things to do. I took a river cruise along millionaire's row - where you can see a house built to look like a miniature White House! Last year I visited Bonnet House, which is named after a type of lily they have growing in the grounds. It houses some interesting art by the previous owners and you get an in-depth tour. Last year, we had temperatures in the nineties. This year however, things were more bearable in the eighties and we actually had some rain. The first weekend in May has, for the last two years anyway, seen an Air and Sea Show hit Fort Lauderdale. If you're into displays of military strength, then this is for you. However, it causes major disruption to bus routes etc. and motels are busy at this time. We decided to head to Daytona Beach at this point!
Advantages: Amazing sites - particularly from waterways Disadvantages: Expensive shopping - so we heard!

Advantages: Lower cost shopping and great fun Disadvantages: Have to be able to drive
I go to Florida to go shopping. As we all know the prices in America are alot cheaper than here in the UK. I love coming back with suitcases of new clothes and knowing that I will be wearing clothes to work that are different to anything that anyone else is wearing.
I have always stayed inland about half an hour from the beaches. I have three favourite malls, one is a huge discount mall and the other two are the American equivalent of our High street ... ...and is huge. I found it generally takes a day to go round. The shops are a mix of everything, clothes, luggage, shoes, sports wear, house wares, electronics goods etc etc.
It is a good idea to shop around as the different stores all carry similar stocks to the others. The only problem is remembering where you saw the best price.
Also, find the information (theres's two) booth first thing and for $5 you can get a booklet which gives money off in ...

Advantages: Beautiful beaches, beautiful weather! Disadvantages: Too hot in the middle of the day!!
...an absolutely lovely time in Fort Lauderdale, just relaxing and 'chilling out', although the weather (early October 2002) was very hot!! We stayed at the DoubleTree Hotel on a special discounted rate as part of a package holiday to the Bahamas and Orlando. The beach was 10 minutes walk and was lovely and sandy. There is also a river at the back of the Double Tree, and a water taxi services the hotels along its bank. A big park is also nearby, which ... ...A fantastic place to visit, and even more so if you get a special offer like we did. My favourite time was waking up early one morning after the one and only lot of rainfall, to see Fort Lauderdale at dawn, still warm but wet!! That was very beautiful. ...

Advantages: Excellent service Disadvantages: A bit crowded on board
. At Nassau the weather was back to normal - glorious. We had booked a speedboat trip to Blackbeards Cay which was a great experience.
That night we set sail back to the USA. Unfortunately hurricane Rita was building up as we headed back and this caused us to divert to Port Everglade in FortLauderdale as it was not safe to dock in Canaveral. Carnival Cruises laid on buses to shuttle us back to Canaveral and four hours later we were able to pick up our hire car and head straight to the airport.
In all, the cruise was very enjoyable. There was all you could eat all day long laid on and plenty of things to do. However, the drinks at the bar were quite expensive and carried a service charge of 15% and the ship seemed a little bit too crowded.
I would recommend this trip as a taster of cruising. It is a pleasant short break at a very ...

Advantages: Absolutely Beautiful, absolutely massive and ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! Disadvantages: None, except that it all had to come to an end...
Almost 1000 feet in length. 116,000 tonnes. 3,110 passengers, 1,200 crew members. 19 decks high.
I embarked my dream holiday cruise ship in February this year. I boarded at FortLauderdale after a spectacular time in Miami, where I had stayed at the five star intercontinental hotel. Out of all the ships docked, including the Queen Mary 2, the Caribbean princess stood out in a BIG way. Here?s my diary?
I can?t describe how absolutely enormous the thing was. We embarked on the fifth floor, plaza deck, where my beautiful stateroom awaited. Once our luggage had arrived, since it had all been taken care of for us, we took a lift up fourteen floors to the top deck, where we stayed for sailaway. Immediately the steel drums were beaten and a party erupted!
After a day at sea, we reached the small beach in the Bahamas, owned by ...
