Advantages: Suits the current production perfectly, less intimidating and expensive than some West End venues Disadvantages: A little small and shabby
...in one (bargain!) - the Fortune Theatre itself, and it's longest running production, Woman in Black, which is still going strong 12 years on. Firstly the theatre. Located pretty much in the middle of the West End (Russell Street, Covent Garden) this theatre seems overshadowed by its much larger, plusher neighbours. It must be admitted that first impressions here are not exactly awe inspiring - everything looks a little cramped, a little run down. ... ...delightful Nouveaux style figure of Fortune at the top of the façade is worth looking out for. It's probably as well it is on a quiet road, as groups would defiantly need to rally outside, as once inside there's no room for a large group, except in their seats. The loos are tiny, but clean and actually a step up from various more impressive sounding venues. The bar is cosy, but not ludicrously overpriced, and the option of pre-ordering drinks for ...

Advantages: Perfect setting, perfect production Disadvantages: not recommended for those of a nervous disposition
...night. The intimacy of the Fortune is perfect for this play as you almost feel that you are sitting listening to some elderly uncle telling you all about his past. A perfect setting, being a little worn and tired but nevertheless an excellent example of a good traditional theatre, well used and loved. I will say nothing of the plot, as it had been said before, but I will say that I was not prepared for the spectacle which awaited me. I have never ... ...most West End Theatres, the Fortune is said to have a resident ghost and you are not sure whether the WIB is part of the production, or the ghost coming out to play. By the end of the play, I think I was under the seat, partly since the Woman in Black herself actually had the same surname as mine and the friend with me was called Jennet.......the Christian name of the character. The names Jennet and Humphries are both unusual and we were shocked ...

Advantages: Realistic Disadvantages: Not so good theatre
Don't you just love all scary stories!? Whether there ghostly or monsterous, you usually love 'em' like I do, or you just quite plainly, simply hate 'em'! Each weekend, well not literally EVERY weekend, but some weekends, I sit down in front of the telly and if there isn't any decent comedies on, I'll simply watch a horror movie instead, ok, ok, so maybe sometimes I'll pull a pillow over my head and then other times I'll jump and maybe even scream ... ...week has been, 'THANK GOD' the last week of school for myself and many others too, this means a it has been a supposedly FUN week for me!! (SUPPOSEDLY!!) One of my main attractions of the week happened on Tuesday, on Tuesday I went to London on an English/Drama school trip to a theatre called the 'Fortune Theatre' to watch 'The Woman In Black'. Taking drama next year as an option to do at GCSE level, I was rather looking forward to the trip, especially ...

Advantages: Makes a change from the cinema and child friendly Disadvantages: No shows during the summer holidays
...Do you find that you are doing the same thing with your children week in week out with your children? Or you landed up going somewhere which cost a fortune? Or want to go somewhere different? Then I have the answer. The Polka theatre in Wimbledon, London. The best thing about is that is does not matter what the weather is like you can go and you can make afternoon or day of it depending on when you go.
I remember going here when I was younger and I moved to down the road from it over a year ago so rediscovered it. My little girl loves the story The Gruffalo and missed it when it was on tour mainly as she was a bit young I felt but I noticed they had the follow up, The Gruffalo's child, here so as a birthday treat I thought I would take her to see it with her cousin, who is not the much older than her, and her mum.
So I rang...

Advantages: happy musical, good night out Disadvantages: pricey but worth it!
...Well here is a fact for you. The Mack likes the theatre. In fact she loves it. As she hadn’t attended a show since the summer, as a treat to herself she thought she’d book to see one of the new musicals in town, ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’.
* Booking *
As I’m fortunate (or unfortunate, depends how you look at it!) to work in London, I went along to the box office at the Shaftesbury theatre to book my tickets.
We were 3 rows from the front, as recommended by the lady in the theatre, as right at the front was a little ‘too’ close, according to her. The stage is raised and we’d be craning our necks.
At £40 per ticket, this wasn’t cheap, but heck, it was December, and this was our treat!
Tickets do come cheaper – Grand Circle are £27.50 and £20 and Stalls and Royal Circle are £40 and £35. Group bookings and concessions...

Advantages: so much to see . . . Disadvantages: . . . so little time
...not childish. The next day they told us that the advice had been good.
I stayed in the Tate Modern for more than three hours, on my own and undisturbed, what a wonderful place! In the evening I saw the play ´The Woman In Black´ at the FortuneTheatre, Russell St, WC 2, a ghost story with two actors and a ghost, fitting into what we´d already seen and heard of London. The students discovered the ´Happy Hour´ at the Pubbar Oxygen, 17 - 18 Irving Street, Leicester Square, which they liked so much that they returned there every night. Once they happened to see from there or nearby (dunno) the stars of the film ´Charlie?s Angels´ whose European release was celebrated, this made the trip to London worthwhile for some of our girls.
Do you know how much it costs to see the Tower? 11.30 GBP for adults/ 8.50 for students/ 7.50 for children! We only...
