I stayed at this Four Seasons Hotel during July 2005. Not quite the right season perhaps to go to Whistler, as it's associated with skiing and wintersports (hence the 2010 Winter Olympics) but it was a trip organised by my company so I didn't have much choice in the matter. I was there for four days and loved every minute!
Whistler itself is an outdoor community, in that if you're into sport and activity there's plenty to do. During the winter you can ski down the mountain, but when there's no snow, the Canadians just mountain bike down it instead.
The hotel is fantastic. It's not in the centre of Whistler, but Whistler is small enough to make it within easy walking distance of everything.
We arrived mid-afternoon and checked into our room easily. We were lucky enough to be given a suite and it was fantastic. We were on the 'extension' to the side of the hotel. The main entrance of our room opened out onto a long entrance corridor which had a storage cupboard for coats and skis etc at the end. It turned right and opened onto a lounge area, which had a sofa, coffee table, armchair, large TV in a cabinet with mini bar and a desk. Also leading off from this room was a marble shower room and a small balcony area.
The view of the mountains from here was amazing: and we were at the front of the hotel, which doesn't afford the best views.
This room also led on to our bedroom which had an enormous king size bed, and another giant TV in a big cabinet opposite the bed. This was useful, as while we were there one of the European Grand Prix was taking place, and, not keen to miss it, we got up early one morning and watched it in bed. The bed was up to scratch and extremely comfortable.
A dressing room led off from the bedroom, which contained a drawer unit and also housed a safe. There was also a wardrobe on the other side of the dressing room: I was disappointed to find this time that the wardrobe did not have an interior light (see my review on The Four Seasons in Las Vegas!). This then led on to the bathroom.
The bathroom was large, with a large separate shower cubicle as well as a deep and wonderful bath. There were plenty of toiletries, and a double sink. The toilet was located in it's own room within the bathroom.
We were unfortunate with the weather and it was colder than we'd hoped it would be, and certainly too cold to use the pool. The pool was really a plunge pool and you wouldn't be able to swim in it properly, but for lying around it on a sunbed it would be ideal. There was also a fitness centre and a spa there, but I never used these facilities.
We didn't dine in the bistro in the evening, but the evening meals that were put on for the company events were very good. Breakfast was included, but I can't say if this was included in the nightly rate or not, as my company paid for it. However, breakfast was excellent with choices of cereal, hot food, continental breakfasts etc. One morning we even had the opportunity to pick our own ingredients and watch while our own omelette was cooked for us.
The bar, which forms half of the bistro, was a great place for getting together in the evenings, and has a large open fire. Never saw it going but bet it would be great in the winter! There was also an outside patio area for sitting, which had a small manmade stream running around it. Great place to sit in the sun.
All in all, a great luxury break. I could see that during skiing season it would be extremely cosy and comfortable. I'd definitely stay there again, even if I had to pay for it next time!
