Now dont get me wrong, as pubs go, its nice. Open fires in both the bar and the lounge. The bar at the weekend is usually chock a block, this is where the young trendies hang out, in fact it makes me, at 35, feel ancient lol In the almost 20 years Ive been going it hasnt actually changed much, the seats are still covered with the god awful 'hunt' design. The walls are covered witha subtle map of Houston and local areas.

The lounge is where the older crowd go, its bigger than the bar and a lot more civilised. It used to have a macaw in a cage but thankfully it died. (Apologies to the bird lovers among you but Lord that bird made a racket) Again it boasts an open fire, which is lovely on a cold night. I think for too long the F&H has been living off its reputation and hasnt bothered about the smaller things (like decor) but now theres a new kid in town and the newly refurbished and newly modernised Houston Inn is giving it a run for its money. A little competition may be just what the place needs
Drink prices are quite expensive, mind you this could be to cover the cost of all the 'Fox and Hound' glasses which have vanished over the years. The F&H have lovely wine glasses in several sizes with the F&H and an engraving of the pub on it, theyre lovely and I wouldnt like to guess how many homes in Houston have one. They can also be bought from the pub and are a lovely momento if you know someone leaving the area. The pub now has its own brewery and brews its own special beers, none of which I can comment on not being a beer fan.
The pub also has a restaurant upstairs. Prices are again on the dear side for a somewhat average meal.
The pub also boasts its minor celebs like Ally McCoist and Gazza who drink here as people are so used to them they just let them enjoy a night out.
If you live in Houston or the surrounding areas then give the place a visit, if youve heard of it by reputation and stay further afield then by all means visit but do let me know what the attraction is.
...not the chaepest around, infact there not cheap at all. The Fox and Hounds also has a restaurant area upstairs serving great bar and restaurant meals at a reasonable price.
This is a good local pub to visit if you are feeling like a quiet but expensive night out! ...

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< THE FOX AND HOUNDS >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Right.. before I start describing the Fox & Hounds pub, I would just like to take this opportunity to make it clear that I am not an alcoholic, in the interests of Ciao I have now taken it upon myself to give you the low down on every pub in Cardiff. I don?t want to be a Martar, but I am sacrifising my good health for you people, I hope you appreciate it?
The Location.
The Fox & Hounds is located on the outskirts of Cardiff in an quaint little towny area called Old St.Mellons, heading towards Newport from the Cardiff Centre. It?s easy to get too, just leave the town centre heading East on Newport road, don?t stray off the road and there it is on the right just after passing some schools.
The Pub :
The pub has undergone an extensive facelift inside and out ...

Advantages: on the edge of Dartmoor national park, bar always open for good food and drinks Disadvantages: none in my view
I?ve not actually slept in the Fox and Hounds but I?ve spent plenty of time sleeping in their garden and I?d best explain that comment quickly before you imagine im so drunk I cant get home !
The Fox and Hounds has Dartmoor national park right behind it. In a field behind the hotel they allow camping in tents, caravans and motor homes. I?ve spent a fair bit of time eating and drinking inside though.
This is a really nice place and it was a hard decision whether or not to add it here. It would be a real shame if get clogged up, because as odd as it sounds for a place on the edge of Dartmoor national park, its not used as much as you would expect.
I suspect the main reason it remains generally reasonable is because a couple of metres from the door runs the A386 road. This is a main road which connects Okehampton and Tavistock ...
Advantages: good for taking the kids, reasonable prices Disadvantages: standard menu
The Fox and Hounds has had somewhat of a revamp over the last few years. The pub used to be a standard local pub where the regulars would prop the bar up. Lately they have added a family room for the kids and added a climbing frame and ball pool.
The main bar is still much unchanged and the clientele who go there are mainly regulars who live nearby. It is the added family room which appears to be the main attraction.
The pub serves food daily and a there is a kids menu avaialble too. Cannot remember prices but are pretty much your standard food and prices you get everywhere else.
There are a wide selection of drinks available although the wine menu is not extensive. However the pub is more somewhere you go for a pint after work or meet up with your mates for a few, or take the kids for lunch and let them play on the soft play ...
