I don’t want to be a Martar, but I am sacrifising my good health for you people, I hope you appreciate it…
The Location.
The Fox & Hounds is located on the outskirts of Cardiff in an quaint little towny area called Old St.Mellons, heading towards Newport from the Cardiff Centre. It’s easy to get too, just leave the town centre heading East on Newport road, don’t stray off the road and there it is on the right just after passing some schools.
The Pub :
The pub has undergone an extensive facelift inside and out. It now sports a beautiful Beer Garden, spacious car park and all new interior (and they have upgraded their car from a run down red escort to a sporty Jeap !?!?).
The Clientele :
The Old St.Mellons area has it’s fair share of pubs, which is actually a blessing for this little establishment (I think anyway) as all the full time and hardened drinkers go to the other pubs in the area leaving the Fox & Hounds to the people that are out for a quiet night or a quick one or a decent meal in nice surroundings.
The Pub :
There isn’t anything that I can actually say negative about this pub. Lance and Tracey the Landlord and Landlady are extremely pleasant and make great hosts, the new layout is extremely spacious and the décor is ultra modern but yet still warm and inviting, like the old style fireplaces with the wood built into the walls in lattices. There’s never any trouble there and it is busy enough to have a good weekend night there and still spacious enough to find a quiet corner if you fancy a little chat with someone. I have been frequenting the pub for several months now having moved into the local area, and it has always provided me with a decent night out, since the renovation (which only took place in March 2003) it has been an excellent venue and the restaurant styling and menu are out of this world. If you are ever up in the area or fancy a decent meal then I strongly suggest that you give this pub a chance..
Prices :
Average for the area, they are cheaper than the inner city bars and on a par for the local bars, which in itself pulls you towards this pub as it is far superior in every other way.
Down fall :
I just thought of one.. There is no pool table … they have a darts board but that’s it in the form of sporting entertainment. Which I class as a downfall, but then the pool table really wouldn’t have fitted the new image of the pub anyway.. Regardless, I will be suggesting to Lance (the landlord) that he gets one pronto
Thankyou for listening and if you are in the area, listen out for a loud mouthed 26yr old with a typically boy band look to him trying to convince the landlord that a pool table would not look out of place in the middle of his restaurant area, that will be me.
This is a great wee pub situated in houston in renfrewshire. The bar area is to be found jam pack full of the younger generation at the weekend. Although the lounge area is suitable for relaxing at every age. This is not a boistrous pub and can boast visitors such as Ally McCoist or Petrov. The drinks are not the chaepest around, infact there not cheap at all. The Fox and Hounds also has a restaurant area upstairs serving great bar and restaurant meals at a reasonable price.
This is a good local pub to visit if you are feeling like a quiet but expensive night out! ...

The Fox and Hounds has always been something of a mystery to me. The odds are if you say to someone youre from Houston then theyll say 'Oh Ive been to the F&H' This begs the question - why?
Ive been going there for years but mainly because its my local and the only pub in Houston with life about it. Why people literally come from miles around is beyond me. Now before I go any further Id like to just point out that this Houston is NOT in Texas but is 20 mins or so from Glasgow.....
Now dont get me wrong, as pubs go, its nice. Open fires in both the bar and the lounge. The bar at the weekend is usually chock a block, this is where the young trendies hang out, in fact it makes me, at 35, feel ancient lol In the almost 20 years Ive been going it hasnt actually changed much, the seats are still covered with the god awful ...

Advantages: on the edge of Dartmoor national park, bar always open for good food and drinks Disadvantages: none in my view
I?ve not actually slept in the Fox and Hounds but I?ve spent plenty of time sleeping in their garden and I?d best explain that comment quickly before you imagine im so drunk I cant get home !
The Fox and Hounds has Dartmoor national park right behind it. In a field behind the hotel they allow camping in tents, caravans and motor homes. I?ve spent a fair bit of time eating and drinking inside though.
This is a really nice place and it was a hard decision whether or not to add it here. It would be a real shame if get clogged up, because as odd as it sounds for a place on the edge of Dartmoor national park, its not used as much as you would expect.
I suspect the main reason it remains generally reasonable is because a couple of metres from the door runs the A386 road. This is a main road which connects Okehampton and Tavistock ...
