Limoges-sur-Lac. Functional and clean
Advantages: Outside pool, childrens playground Disadvantages: Location
I stayed here for one night in August 2009 with my two children aged 7 and 10. The hotel is located about 2 miles from the centre of Limoges. Like many Novotels it is built in an industrial park area which means that it is away from public transport but has the space to provide other facilities. We stayed here on a Sunday night yet it was still pretty full. Our room slept 4 (two double beds) and it was just about big enough to feel comfortable. The ... ...bathroom was small but to be honest if you are staying here you are unlikely to spend a great deal of time in the room. The hotel website boasted a swimming pool, a childrens play zone and a bar. Although these facilities did exist they perhaps suggested more than they delivered. The pool was outside and as it was pouring with rain and freezing we were unable to use it. The childrens playzone was an area about 3 foot square which had a tv with an ...

Nice hotel, but you'll need to remortage to stay here!
Advantages: Relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, Lake Disney Disadvantages: Prices,Prices, Prices!!
First things first, as we pulled in to the grounds of the hotel and I saw it in front of us, I thought I was seeing double. Never in my life have I seen a hotel this big, and with 1100 rooms, there will certainly always be availability! The hotel was certainly impressive and from the front had a look of the White House with great big white columns. The hotel has a nautical feel, which was aparant as soon as we walked through the huge doors to check ... ...hiccup occuring, whereby they didn't put our tickets in which we had prebooked and paid for a meal but this was quickly rectified. We then made our way down to our room, which took us about 10 minutes to walk to, so after effing and blinding as to the distance we had to walk, this was soon forgotten as we realised we had a ground level room facing Lake Disney. The room was standard with two double beds, a tv, a dressing area and of course a bath ...

Hôtel Restaurant La Flambée -dine in style but bedrooms plain.
Advantages: Beautiful dining room Disadvantages: Bedrooms adequate but not elegant.
...account as possible about the hotel as I can provide. Hopefully this may help if you are planning to visit this part of the world. We flew to Bordeaux but the most convenient airport for the hotel is actually in Bergerac as the hotel lies about 2 miles outside the town. Incase you are not familiar with this part of the world these places are in the main wine growing areas, and are in South West France. Flying time from the UK is about an hour and ... ...to enjoy. The hotel La Flambée is a family run hotel and you can visit the website at www.laflambee.com Our first impression as we saw the hotel was that it was inviting, and the reception was friendly and welcoming. Our room on the first floor was a double and created mixed feelings. We have been to quite a few French hotels and have found the rooms to have a decidedly romantic feel to them. This room was not in this category, but it was certainly ...

Bon Vacances at Port Bourgenay
Advantages: Masses to do, something for everyone. Disadvantages: Maybe a bit pricey in high season
...for Port Bourgenay, run by Pierre et Vacances, as it looked like it was in a perfect location, is close to the beach, and there seemed to be a lot to do. It cost somewhere in the region of £1000 for the accommodation (£250 in deals) for seven nights and £300 for the return ferry. Location
We live in the south west, so a Portsmouth - Cherbourg crossing is ideal for us. We always get the earliest ferry (around 9am) so we arrive in France around ... ...our accommodation and settle in by bed time. Or so I thought! This really wasn't the easiest place to find at all. We knew the main towns that we had to head towards: Rennes, Nantes, La-Roche-Sur-Yon, and finally onto Les Sables-d'Olonne before following the signs for a few miles to reach our destination. We estimated that this would take us about five hours, but given the good old French road signs, my map reading and stopping for a wee and not ...

Best Western Le Donjon Les Ramparts certainly not Best Value
Advantages: None Disadvantages: Split into different buildings, expensive.
...perfectly honest that was the best bit. For those of you that have visited and enjoyed your stay I will apologise now but we absolutely hated it, if I had wanted a theme park I would have gone to Disneyland! The city was full of the most horrendous ‘tat’ gift shops selling everything from fake suits of armour to tee-shirts with knights on them and really awful ‘attractions’ (I use this word loosely) such as the haunted manor and weapon museum. It ... ...The rooms pictured on the Best Western website looked nothing like ours. I can only imagine that they are executive rooms and not standard ones. While ‘grumpy’s’ room had been recently refurbished ours looked like something from the Crossroads Motel. (Old midlands soap opera). It was shabby! The furniture had seen better days, the walls could have done with a lick of paint and you had to run around to get wet in the shower. ‘Grumpy’s’, on the other ...
