Advantages: Scenery, beaches, people, coral reefs, boats, sea life Disadvantages: Expensive, not for people who don't like boats
...many yachtsmen as the jumping off point to the nearby gems of Bequia, Mustique and the fabulous Tobago Cays. As part of our hotel deal we had the option of a private three day sailing trip on a 48 footer, touring the islands and the cays, sleeping and eating on board, and bring your own booze.
Captain, cook, my wife and I were ready to set off on a glorious morning, having supervised the loading of the beer, the wine and the rum ration. Loading the passengers proved to be more complicated. A wobbly dinghy, a back of boat stepladder cleverly positioned just out of reach of all but a keen orang-utan, and suddenly those refreshing brunch-time rum and cokes no longer seemed like such a good idea. Besides, ten feet or so back to the jetty is quite a distance when you swim like I do.

Advantages: Unspoilt, beautiful beaches, uninhabited islands Disadvantages: Remote, hard to get around without a boat
...This chain of islands forms part of the Windward Islands, stretching between Grenada and St Vincent. You really need to be on a boat to see them properly.
We chartered a yacht from The Moorings and sailed around the islands for 10 blissful days. We started at Canouan, in the middle of the chain, and visited:
Bequia - a sheltered harbour with great bars and restaurants, and a wonderful turtle sanctuary
Mustique - playground of the rich and famous, hired a golf buggy to tour the island
Petit St Vincent - great snorkelling
and my favourite place on earth:
Tobago Cays - five small uninhabited islands within Horseshoe Reef, the only thing between you and Africa! Wonderful snorkelling, incredible beaches and hardly anyone around - maybe another yacht or two. Every day the local boys come round in their boats and offer to sell you fresh fish...

Advantages: Great island, friendly, sea and sand superb Disadvantages: Not cheap
...glasses and plates were there all day and sometimes into the next day. The rooms open straight out to the open air, not into internal corridors. My room was fairly quiet and was peaceful.
There was no facility for internet use from the room but near reception there was a PC and printer available for use at no additional charge (this is an all-inclusive only hotel).
The grounds are well maintained and landscaped, the space cleverly used with lots of places to sit, the beach good and well looked after and the pools are lovely. The sea is warm and everything you have read, heard and dreamed about in the Caribbean. The west coast sunsets are fairly legendary and beautiful again and again and again and it was a pleasure to spend time in the flower filled and frangipani-fragranced surroundings.
