My Mainhattan
Review of Frankfurt/Main (Germany) by MALU

Advantages: lots to do
Disadvantages: during a day out you won't experience any

Calling Frankfurt Mainhattan is the same as calling some stinking canals Little Venice or a range of mounds a bit higher than a molehill Switzerland. Everything is relative, as no other German city has more high-rise buildings than Frankfurt (which has 50 in the centre) and the city lies on the banks of the river Main, Mainhattan it is. What do people associate with Frankfurt? Most can only come up with the international airport and banks (they ...
...to add Stock Exchange and City of the Euro which goes in the same direction. There are more than 400 banks which are responsible for the city's other nickname 'Bankfurt'. The other day I read that 70% of all visitors come for business and only 30% are real tourists who want to visit the city as such, the people responsible for tourism work hard to make Frankfurt more attractive to visitors, they don't have to exert themselves too much in my case ... Frankfurt am Main restaurants not expensive
Review of Frankfurt/Main (Germany) by silver-fir4

Advantages: "Restaurants: unhurried, relaxing, inexpensive, historical, even medievial" .... "Where?" ... "In Frankfurt am Main." .... "Never ! who do you take me for, save your stupid jokes for someone else !"
Disadvantages: "Are you kidding? This can`t be !... Frankfurt is a financial center, trade fare, traffic focus, airport and business place. Nix da medievial !! "

Frankfurt am Main (660.000 inhabitants) is not known for being a definite tourist attraction like Vienna or Munich. Frankfurt is often regarded in Germany only as a business centre and transit focus. It could be more for the visitior: e.g. modern playful architecture, history, museums, art, festivals and cultural events. The "expensive" reputation of Frankfurt one can get just on first sight. Because of the big events with thousands of people attending ...
...3.00 Euro. But there we won't go ... Restaurants in Frankfurt are mostly quite good in value. Such as: TIERRA VERDE (appendix 6, right picture) Ambience of the restaurant / surrounding environment: Situated in the popular (weekend / after work) shopping mile of the Berger Straße, a jovial alternative to the central Zeil with its big shopping centers. Fortunately Berger Strasse is not too much frequented with traffic, but nevertheless ... Read review

THE CITY WHERE I LIVE
Review of Frankfurt/Main (Germany) by GermanGuillotine

Advantages: Clean, big city,good sightseeing
Disadvantages: -

Ok not exactly, but i live 5-10km from it in a city called "Bad Homburg", in the subvillage "Ober Eschbach", next to Ober Eschbach is the village "Nieder Eschbach", it already belongs to frankfurt! So you can imagine that i visit Frankfurt very often, for example for shopping. HISTORY: The name "Frankfurt" is because about 1000 years ago the "Franken" lived in this area of Germany, and because of the river "Main" they made a "furt", its a way ...
...stuff. But later Frankfurt was very important, too. Many Kaiser visited it, and became Kaisers in Frankfurt! Since 1866 is Frankfurt part of Preussen, 1880 the "alte Oper" and 1886"the Hauptbahnhof" are opened. In the second worldwar the inner city of Frankfurt is nearly complete destroyed by bombs. 1949 Frankfurt is nearly getting the capital city of Germany, only a few votes are missing, but Berlin is getting capital city again. In 1997 the ... Read review

Frankfurt am Main - Worth a visit
Review of Frankfurt/Main (Germany) by Nicole78

Advantages: Culture, fun and party
Disadvantages: Quite busy and could be cleaner

Frankfurt am Main I lived in Frankfurt for just over 2 years. Long enough to enable me to tell you a bit about! Mainhattan and its skyscrapers This is the unofficial name for Frankfurt in Hessen with its ca. 630.000 inhabitants. It obviously refers to Manhattan being famous for its skyscrapers. Just like Frankfurt. And the Main is one of Germanys biggest river crossing Frankfurt. That is how the name was created. Frankfurt belongs to the towns ...
...in the area of the city centre. For example the "Messeturm" (trade fair tower) with its 259 m is the highest building in Europe. And you have a great view over the town standing on such a skyscraper when the sun goes down…. Frankfurt as economical town Frankfurt historically has a great importance of the development of Germany. Still today it is THE financial town where for example the European Central Bank residents. If you get to know somebody ... Read review

It's not that bad - really
Review of Frankfurt/Main (Germany) by Heksen

Advantages: Lots of things to do and see
Disadvantages: it has got its rough spots

So, this is my first ever opinion on ciao.uk - I hope you'll forgive me any mistakes, my English is just a tad rusty... Seeing as I live in Frankfurt and was born close by, I thinks it's only fair that I write something nice about it ;-). *Arrival* When you arrive at Frankfurt, you'll most probably hit the Main Train Station at one point or another. And --- this, I admit, is not the best place to detect the city's charme. Around the train station ...
...don't get put out by any drug-addicts you might see. They are there, but mostly harmless. The station itsself is in an abysmal state at the moment, the renovation planned could not be financed by Deutsche Bahn AG and the nets you see up on the ceiling are not there to keep the pidgeons out - they are there to protect unsuspecting travellers from falling bits of the roof - no joke. *City* But onwards to nicer parts of the town. Frankfurt, which has ... Read review
