I flew from Prestwick to Frankfurt Hahn by Ryanair in Easter 2000, and was very satisfied with the service I received. On arrival in Hahn, the luggage carousel is the size of a kid's toy, and almost completely stress-free. You get through customs in next to no time, as there are so few people to process, and the bus waits for you outside the front entrance to whisk you away to Frankfurt main train station, from which you can access the rest of Germany (and Europe, come to that). The bus journey is quite a long one - a couple of hours - and cost me in 2000 about £8 one way. Coming back, the trip was similarly hassle-free - the bus stop is just where you got off on arrival outside the train station and tickets are bought from the driver. You are dropped off at the airport, and as there were no delays in flights when I was there, there were no queues either. In the airport is a café and a couple of small shops for magazines, papers, sweeties and so on. Once you go through customs to the departure lounge, there is another café too, for snacks, beer and suchlike. I can't say I noticed any shops in the departure lounge, however. There is also a lack of entertainment for the kiddies, big and small, unless you like to sit over a beer and watch your fellow travellers. I found the whole experience very soothing and a far cry from the manic rush of the bigger airports. I can't say I noticed any facilities for disabled travellers, however, so it would be worth checking that out if necessary.

Advantages: Closer to west border and might be more conveniant than Frankfurt, cheaper flights(low airport tax) Disadvantages: Small check in area (queues out door)
