Will be heading out to Adelaide later this year with the girlfriend for a working holiday, and thought a review of what we have found out so far and what I already know of the place might be useful for others thinking about doing the same.
I lived in Adelaide till I was about 10 and have been back there a number of times since (from the UK), and have to say I have never been short of things to do there! Adelaide (like many places in Australia) is a great place to go for outdoor activities such as walking, sightseeing and water-sports. Although the city can seem a bit confusing and overwhelming at first, it does not take long to get used to, and is generally easy to get around with excellent public transport and wide straight roads (although lots of traffic lights!). . Or if you're looking for a place to do a bit of shopping after a nice break at a café, there are numerous exquisite cafes located right in the city by the shopping district and at the central markets.

and told me to comeback with my passport and I got a further £40 knocked off!
Other popular buys, apart from digeridoos and boomerangs, are outback style waxed coats, Aboriginal art and leather goods.
EATING OUT
There's a wide range of places to eat in Adelaide and I found them all reasonably priced even the ones that my Australian friends found expensive - compared to prices in Britain they were superb as was the quality using a lot of local produce. The main area for restaurants which comes to life on a night with pavement restaurants is Hindley Street. There's a very cosmopolitan choice of restaurants including Italian, Greek, Vietnamese, Thai, Vegetarian, Mexican - there's something for everyone.
Look out for the letters BYO. This means 'bring your own' and means restaurants aren't licenced but you can bring your own bottles ...
