On my recent trip to Australia we stopped off in Hervey Bay after a not so good time in Rainbow beach (2hrs south of Hervey).
We decided to stay for only two nights in the Fraser Escape hostel as we were eager to get out to fraser island.
We were picked up from the Greyhound bus by a friendly guy from the hostel who took some of us for a small tour of Hervey Bay on the way to the hostel.

After a short drive we all arrived and i was a bit dubious about the location, but it wasnt too bad actually. It took only ten minutes to walk to the beach and there was a cheap little place to eat next door.

As for the Dorm rooms im not too sure but was told they were average as everyone had came to expect from their travels. We stayed in a Double room for $50 a night between 2 so this worked out to be about £11 each night which wasnt too bad. This was about average as you would pay about 10 - $15 more in sydney, brisbane etc and as low as $30 in smaller areas such as nambucca heads a bit north of port mcquarrie.

The cabin we stayed in had one double room and 4 dorm beds in the kitchen/living area which was clean and had everything we needed.

This was certainly one of the better hostels we stayed in on our trip.

The hostel also had its own, fairly cheap bar which i didnt make too much use of due to a previous pub crawl the night before...hmmm...but it was cool all the same.

The deals to fraser island were awesome with people getting away on a 3 day 2night trip for as little as $140 (about £60 a couple of months back). The review of fraser island im sure has been done by some others so i wont talk about that here.

The only down side of the hostel was some of the staff weren't too bothered about you waiting at reception / didnt really want to serve you at all, but you get that in some places and im sure there will be different staff now....i hope!

Dorm beds, if you fancied staying were quite cheap at $15 dollars but that was during peak season so that would be the maximum price there.

Cooking and showering facilities were plentiful for dorm travellers also so no worries there.

All in all a good hostel/ converted caravan site that i would recommend for a couple of days. No more or you will definitely get bored!
