I have recently moved to Oxford and met my Auntie, who is a local, for lunch on my first weekend there. She instantly knew where we were going to eat, G&D's cafe.

We went to the cafe on St Aldgates although I later found out that there are 3 cafes in the small chain. It is claimed to be an Oxford institution.

We lingered in the cafe for ages, having a drink and then food and then another drink but we weren't pressurised at any point to hurry or leave.

The food choice is bagels, either cold, metlz or pizza bagels. I chose a melt which was bacon and brie. It was yummy and ever so filling, it's hard to think that something so small can be so filling, I didn't want anything to eat that evening.

The cafes serve their own ice cream which is made in the original of the three cafes. We didn't have any as we were too full! The ice cream comes in a wide range of flavours - and they have a petition book in each of the shops where customers can vote for new flavours.

I cannot comment on the price of the food/drinks as I was treated by my Auntie. However I have since visited G&D's again with my boyfriend. This time we went to the original of the three stores on Little Claredon street, this one I didn't think was as nice and the other one but it is clearly what the others have been built on and it is where the ice cream is made. I did want to have the same bagel again but opted for something different, a tuna melt bagel, while my boyfriend had a BLT bagel. These along with a drink each came to around £9 - reasonable price for lovely fresh food. We then left this store and went to the one I'd visited before for ice cream very lovely and clearly home made.

Cannot fault this place at all and would recommend it to all visitors to Oxford.
