Gainsbourg Bar Americain is one of Berlin's best cocktail bars. Ideally located on Savigny Platz, just a stone's throw from the Kurfürstendamm and the Bahnhof Zoo (main station), it can easily be reached with bus line 149 from the main station. ...Gainsbourg is the place to drink cocktails and other beverages at extremely reasonable prices (beer from DM5, cocktails for DM7-20, wine by the glass from DM6). A small selection of alcohol-free cocktails is available for the designated driver. If you ask, you will get a bowl of peanuts, pretzel sticks, or other snacks. ...in for a longer drinking session. The restaurant area is at the back of the room and is clearly defined by fully laid tables. The seating is more comfortable with some lovely looking wicker-backed chairs. There are also some banquette seating areas up against the walls - ideal for a quiet tête-à-tête or romantic meal. My only major criticism of the restaurant layout was that the non-smoking section of the restaurant was directly next to the bar area where everyone was smoking. I really don't want someone smoking next to me whilst I am eating (specially some English chav smoking Gauloises and pretending to be Serge Gainsbourg, when his real name is Trevor and he lives in Portsmouth).
