Advantages: Excellent Beaches, Wonderful sites, scenes and experiences
Disadvantages: security situation / bit difficult to get around on your own

...Being a Srilankan myself, I though i'd just write about experiences that could help all of you who are planning to visit the country. I've just listed down the top 10 things / sites / places of interest that you might wanna check out when your over here.... 1. The Elephant Orphanage. 2. Unawatuna Beach - Has the longest stretch of beach in the whole of Asia. 3. The tea plantations - there's a hotel by the name of The Tea factory that situated on a plantation itself and its a wonderful experience to witness the entire process of making tea as well as do a bit of tea tasting. 4. In terms of eco holidays, you should visit Kandalama hotel. 100% eco firendly and a lovely hotel. 5. Galle - Specially Galle fort. Lots of history and wonderful sites to visit as well. Advantages: Beautiful country, full of history

...at the stunning and romantic Lighthouse Hotel, Galle. Oh, by the way our lunch stop made a pleasant change – a buffet with lots of dal and rice! We had a lovely room, complete with a sea view and our very own waterfall as the rain cascaded off our patio. As it was so wet anyway we went for a swim in the hotel’s outside pool! To make matters worse it was National Day and no alcohol was sold. Still tomorrow could only get better. Day 8. It was better, at least for a little while. The sun shone, the sea was blue and everything seemed perfect. After breakfast we visited the picturesque old fort, before setting off for Colombo. We drove parallel to the coast admiring the deserted beaches along the way. We had a very brief motorised tour of Colombo. Advantages: colonial splendour, a very welcome retreat from a dirty old town
Disadvantages: Don't be absurd!

...Colombo City is a deranged, dusty, frenetic type of place where large brown cows wander self righteously down the main roads seemingly oblivious to the crazed over stuffed buses and insane tuk-tuk drivers that cross their paths;(while in Sri Lanka I noted with some amusement that while traffic will screech to a halt and patiently wait for cows, dogs and the delightful, lazy monitor lizards to amble at their own pace across the roads, humans receive none of this polite conduct and have to take their own lives in their hands)..............the humidity is breathtaking, like being suffocated by a warm, wet towel, but fear not respite can be had in the form of the grand old colonial hotel "Galle Face". Established in 1864 this is a salute to the old colonial days when Sri Lanka was Ceylon and pale, european ladies perspired gently... Read review
