Galle is a very old city. There is so much to see. I felt so happy. We went to the Fort and walked on the ramparts and on the esplanade. Ramparts were built by Dutch to guard the city of Galle. Some of the ancient buildings in that fort also belong to the Dutch period.

Scenery was so beautiful and we enjoyed very much. The beaches are very beautiful. There were few tourists in the train. You have to realize how beautiful Galle is. You can see fishermen sitting on sticks fishing in the see along the south coast. It is a strange technique of fishing. Nobody knows how this technique originated from. It works as the stilts are attractive sceneries. You can catch a glimpse of the famouse stilt fishermen in the down south. You are lucky as such a sight is nowhere to be found in Sri Lanka. Stilt fishing is famous as a generational occupation among the fishermen with the child taking after father. They make their own stilts on the reef and all stilts have their own fishermen. Newcomers are not able to use others' stilts. Stilts are made on the reef nearly 20 m from the see shore. Fishermen walk from the shore to these stilts with baskets, fiosh hooks and fishing rods. They collest their day's catch into the basket and carry . Actually I did not feel that we have reached Galle.

I can not forget "Unawatuna". Beaches are lovely and the water is so warm to get sea bath. We did not forget to collect so many see shells and pieces of coral. There you can buy various kind of necklaces, ornaments and lots of creative things made of see shells. Get that experience as soon as possible. Never miss it.
Advantages: Extremly Affordable, Very High Standards, Professional Service, Family Friendly Atmosphere, A Secure Place. Disadvantages: Might not be appealing of you arent into classical stuff.
Galle Face hotels is one of SriLanka's best hotels. First built in the late 1800's Century, and about 200 years later, it still has the old colonial splendor. Walking into the hotel for the first time in my life, the very professional service was what struck me at first. But then walking through those grand doors, it seemed as if I had travel back through time to when the British ruled SriLanka. From the furniture to the to the wallpaper, the management has managed to conceal the hotel from our ever changing environment and maintain the classical atmosphere.
The atmosphere is not only the best feature. The location adds to the prestige of the hotel. Set by the sea, the hotel's own restaurant , the 'Sea Spray', is the most romantic spot in the hotel. A candle light dinner at this awesome place is the best thing that could happen to ...
Advantages: Friendly agency with a personal touch, good links with placement countries and wide variety of programmes Disadvantages: some communication problems over what was included in my prize (a minor quibble)
or an administrator) as well as an EFL teacher. In SriLanka, you can work on a turtle sanctuary. There are fees for all of the programmes as well as for the placement. However, once you are there your on-site accomodation and food is free - the quality depends on the location!
There is also a co-ordinator based in the country of your placement. Our one was a twenty-something Hindu emigre from the Sind region of Pakistan, who was a garment manufacturer (although I never saw him do any work!)and western-educated. He was very helpful and always arranged for us to have a good weekend in Colombo or Unawatuna (although his travelling experience of SriLanka seemed to be limited to Colombo, Galle and Nuwara Eliya!). He also had good links and contacts with the placements.
There is the option of going on a week long tour, costing around Ģ125. It is a nice ...

Advantages: colonial splendour, a very welcome retreat from a dirty old town Disadvantages: Don't be absurd!
Colombo City is a deranged, dusty, frenetic type of place where large brown cows wander self righteously down the main roads seemingly oblivious to the crazed over stuffed buses and insane tuk-tuk drivers that cross their paths;(while in SriLanka I noted with some amusement that while traffic will screech to a halt and patiently wait for cows, dogs and the delightful, lazy monitor lizards to amble at their own pace across the roads, humans receive none of this polite conduct and have to take their own lives in their hands)..............the humidity is breathtaking, like being suffocated by a warm, wet towel, but fear not respite can be had in the form of the grand old colonial hotel "Galle Face". Established in 1864 this is a salute to the old colonial days when SriLanka was Ceylon and pale, european ladies perspired gently in ...
