Advantages: Got to see alot in a short space of time Disadvantages: Slightly expensive. Mostly on the bus
could walk around if you paid a small donation. There was this cute little restaurant near where I got a very yummy croissant and tea.
Back into the bus and onto the Castro Area which was the gay area of the town, again we only drove past here and did not stop.
We made our way up the mountains to see the twin peaks. You had the opportunity to get out of the bus to see the most beautiful view of SanFrancisco, you could see for miles. This was a lovely photo stop. This probably was the best part of the day for me.
We then drove out to Golden Gate Park. You could have gone into a Japanese tea garden if you paid $4 in and then $4 for tea and a biscuit. We decided not to and instead went for a walk around the gardens as we had about half and hour to spare.

Advantages: Cheap, clean and location, location, location! Disadvantages: old-fashioned, elevator from hell
the city!
You also have the option to join dinner at the hostel, butI didn't do this myself. There is quite a collection of nice restaurants in the street, and SanFrancisco in general is a gourmet's dream!
Nonetheless, the lounge in the Adelaide hostel is a good place to chill out for a second and to meet people. Strangely, the lounge and the hostel itself look a lot more modern and luxurious than the hotel!
Surroundings
Well, what can I say? It's SanFrancisco, and the hotel is smack-bang in the middle of it! There is an enormous array of activities and sight to see. Go to Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge/Park,Marin County. Shop at Union Square, hop on a cable car or have a look in Chinatown- the list is endless!
Price
The rooms start at 50 dollars a night- very reasonable given the wonderful location and the fact that ...
Advantages: Excellent value for money, great location Disadvantages: Old fashioned style
Just got back from a lovely holiday in SanFrancisco where we stayed at the York Hotel at 940 Sutter Street, just 4 blocks from the central Union Square area and only 2 blocks from the major transport stops at Powell Street.
History:
Built in the 1920s, the hotel still has many of its original features, including Bakerlite electrical fittings and ceramic solid baths. It also has a history. If you're a Hitchcock film fan you'll love the fact that Vertigo was filmed here and you will spot the square white hotel staircase used in the film as James Stewart suffers an attack of Vertigo. Also perseved are two of the rooms associated with the film (rooms 301 and 501, also referred to as the Vertigo Room and the Kim Novak room respectively) both of which can be rented for an additional cost and contain posters and photos taken from ...
