Happy days in Banjul
Advantages: Quiet location Disadvantages: No nightlife outside hotel
...sun holiday, we chose the Corinthia Atlantic Hotel in Banjul for its location away from the more crowded beach resorts along the Atlantic coast in spite of some rather negative reviews we had read. First impression was one of drab brown, beige and dark corridors and a similarly dated room with cigarette burned curtains sagging from missing curtain hooks, brown bedspreads and brown floor tiles. Everywhere was dark from too small energy saving light ... ...are not great at tiling and grouting.
However, having said that, the overall atmosphere at the hotel was friendly and easygoing, it was spotlessly clean, and after a day we never noticed any of it again. The staff was so extremely friendly and smiling and did everything possible to help us with anything. The buffet restaurant food for both breakfast and dinner was varied, plentiful and well made. At the beach bar however, even the same dish varied ...

Brilliant Hotel!
Advantages: Grounds, Location Disadvantages: Basic level of the rooms.
I visited the hotel in April 2008, with my boyfriend. I have to say that it was an absolutely brilliant holiday. The rooms were very basic, but we only used it to sleep in as we were outside either by the pool or somewhere else for the entire day. We went with Thomas Cook so air conditioninig was included in our bill (i believe that if you go with Thomson you have to pay extra). We stayed on a B&B basis, but always tended to eat lunch at the hotel ... ...The hotel is also in a brilliant place for eating out in the evening. The road leading down to the hotel has so many different restaurants it is difficult to decide every night, and they are all very cheap.
Within the hotel the grounds are beautiful, and the wildlife is amazong. We saw families of monkeys nearly everyday, and the staff are extrememly friendly and relaxed. It does have a 3 star rating, and if you are expecting luxury then don't go ...

Kololi Beach Club and surround
Advantages: Great place. Disadvantages: Watch for how you part with your cash.
I have stayed at this hotel now on two occasions and would go again any time.
Its a pretty basic hotel but comfortable and the staff are very friendly and take great pride in there work, especially it has to be said, the cleaning staff. Mind you, the pool cleaner does seem to take an age as well, wonder if he is on an hourly rate?
Definately would advise hiring a fridge for your room from the hotel.
My only bad thing to say about the hotel is ... ...a trek after a few days.
Access to the beach is straight off the hotel grounds. Not so many bumsters this year.( A quick guide to them after ).
I've always found the weather to be great in November/December. Hot during the day and comfortable at night.
As for Kololi. The restauarants basically are selling the same deal in food or drink. Happy hour varies in time from place to place, a few Delasi difference here or there.
There are of course Chinese, ...

Palm Beach Hotel
Advantages: Location, price, friendliness of local people Disadvantages: Distance to resort centre, lack of swimming opportunities in the sea
I stayed at this hotel during April 2007 and had a fantastic time. Gambia is a complete cultural experience like nothing else I had experienced before!
The hotel was basic but what can you expect for a developing country? The outdoor pool area was lovely and the location, right on the beach, was perfect! The only downside was that the resort centre was about 10 minutes walk away (although much quicker during the daytime when it was possible to walk ... ...wise up to bumsters! The hotel staff were brilliant though and they will advise you and even show you around their country themselves if you befriend them (which is easy to do). We have made lifelong friends from the Palm Beach Hotel, and got to experience the proper Gambian way of life by being invited for tea with some of the hotel staff back in their houses.
I would happily return to this hotel and this country and would be comfident of another ...

A hidden paradise in Gunjur, Gambia
Advantages: Perfect location, ideal get-away, nice beach, lush nature, good food and drinks, lovely staff Disadvantages: if you see it as an disadvantage, about 45 minutes from the busy resorts
Lovely place in rural Gambia where we experienced a real African Holiday. The logde, as it is now called instead of Motel, is perfectly located on the beach of the village of Gunjur. The area is unspoilt and nearby is the colourful fishing village with loads of activity, boats, people and fish. Very interesting to see how the daily life is there.
The lodge has 8 rooms, so very intimate but spacious. There is a big garden and a small bush to wander ... ...beach huts with beds and real thick matrasses. Makes it even more better! The sunsets are amazing and every day when we were out we wanted to be back in time to see the sun go down.
The rooms are basic but very clean and everything was there what we needed. Clean bed linnen & towels, en-suite bathroom with shower. The water is very hot during the day and luke warm in the evenings as the watertank is heated by the sun. They run on solar, so they ...
