Go for the sun, Stay for the people
Advantages: Good budget hotel, surrounded by good restaurants and a gorgeous beach Disadvantages: Management are strict and overbearing, expensive food/drink within the complex
We were looking for a cheap holiday in the sun during January last year, and came across a 2 week stay in Gamibia for £800 for two people. We jumped at the chance and this is the hotel we ended up in. The hotel itself is about 10 minutes walk from a beautiful beach, trying the fresh fruit juice's here is a must. Its located in a very touristy area, and as a result expect to be hassled by the locals as soon as you step outside the gates. I heard about ... ...worry me, but once we were there it wasn't as bad as people had made out. The locals are so friendly, like nothing I've ever experienced before, you can expect to be treated like local celebreties when visiting Gambia! The people that hassle you form two groups, and its important to be able to recognise them early on. There are the Green Taxi drivers who will attempt to befriend you at every opportunity and will then offer their cab services for ...

Would not return worse hotel I have been to
Advantages: Location was OK Disadvantages: Filthy, run down - needs to be taken from the brochures
...only thing going for this hotel was the location. We went for 10 nights Christmas 2008 I had booked the Corinthia Atlantic but changed a week before we were due to go. Worse mistake ever. Upon arrival the hotel was extreamly basic like expected well worse really- I know its The Gamia but all the other hotels seemed much better.
Our first room was filthy all the plug sockets were hanging from the wall and the place smelt really bad. I had paid for ... ...all quiet real - you dont need to stay in a dirty hotel. I would seriously reccomend you book another hotel. Hotel Senegambia looked fantastic but is more expensive. Do visit Gambia is a wonderful place and I will return - to a different hotel ...

Kololi Beach Club and surround
Advantages: Great place. Disadvantages: Watch for how you part with your cash.
I have stayed at this hotel now on two occasions and would go again any time.
Its a pretty basic hotel but comfortable and the staff are very friendly and take great pride in there work, especially it has to be said, the cleaning staff. Mind you, the pool cleaner does seem to take an age as well, wonder if he is on an hourly rate?
Definately would advise hiring a fridge for your room from the hotel.
My only bad thing to say about the hotel is ... ...a trek after a few days.
Access to the beach is straight off the hotel grounds. Not so many bumsters this year.( A quick guide to them after ).
I've always found the weather to be great in November/December. Hot during the day and comfortable at night.
As for Kololi. The restauarants basically are selling the same deal in food or drink. Happy hour varies in time from place to place, a few Delasi difference here or there.
There are of course Chinese, ...

Brilliant Hotel!
Advantages: Grounds, Location Disadvantages: Basic level of the rooms.
I visited the hotel in April 2008, with my boyfriend. I have to say that it was an absolutely brilliant holiday. The rooms were very basic, but we only used it to sleep in as we were outside either by the pool or somewhere else for the entire day. We went with Thomas Cook so air conditioninig was included in our bill (i believe that if you go with Thomson you have to pay extra). We stayed on a B&B basis, but always tended to eat lunch at the hotel ... ...The hotel is also in a brilliant place for eating out in the evening. The road leading down to the hotel has so many different restaurants it is difficult to decide every night, and they are all very cheap.
Within the hotel the grounds are beautiful, and the wildlife is amazong. We saw families of monkeys nearly everyday, and the staff are extrememly friendly and relaxed. It does have a 3 star rating, and if you are expecting luxury then don't go ...

J. SANDERSON
Advantages: NEAR TO THE BEACH Disadvantages: NEEDS TO BE CLEANER, ESPECIALLY IN THE RESTAURANT
I have visited theKombo on many occasions. It is situated on the beach and next to a small market. Nearby are several restaurants and other hotels. The staff there are friendly and do their best for you. The pool is great and kept very clean. However, the safes are expensive and on several occasions guests have had small amounts of money mysteriously vanish. The food overall is very good and a reasonable variety although cleanliness is sometimes ... ...busy themselves around the sweet table. Tours can be expensive and if you've been out before it can be much cheaper to go on your own, especially to the monkey park which is a great deal of fun. Be careful NOT to have ice in any of your drinks, wash any fruit that you may buy and wash your hands after dealing with the paper money. It's advisable to take along several cans of DEET insect repellent as this is an area of HIGH malaria outbreaks. There ...
