The Gatwick Express which departs from London Victoria is the most practical and cheapest way to get to Gatwick Airport, whether you plan to travel abroad or pick up a friend/relative from the airport the Express will take you directly to Gatwick with no hassles. Even though i`m a motorist a still prefer to leave my car at home and make the trip by train, I have tried both modes of transport and find the train to be the best route, you avoid traffic congestion and you make the trip in 30mins instead of a possible 2 hours.
Having used this service for as long as i can remember the Gatwick Express is brilliant, and to say that about public transport is saying something. So why is the Gatwick Express so good?
Plenty of trains that run every 15 minutes.
24 Hour Service.
99% of times the train leaves on time.
Purchasing tickets is easy, you have two options 1)At Victoria station before boarding train or 2) On the train itself
It is a safe way to travel no matter what time it is
Clean and comfortable carriages.
You have the option of 1st or standard class carriages.
Buffet food is also served.
Prices are reasonable.
Discount prices for children under 16.
Toilets on the train.
The prices vary depending which type of class you wish to travel :
Standard Class - A Single ticket will cost you £10.50 - A return ticket will cost you £20.00 - valid for 1 month - A single ticket day return will cost you £11.50
First Class - A single ticket will cost you £17.00 - A return ticket valid for one month will cost you £35.00
Travelling on the Express is comfortable even if you travel standard class, the carriages are clean and there is a lot of leg room. You also have special designated areas for suitcases, these areas can at times get over loaded and can block your path into the carriage. However, that does not take the shine away from travelling on the Gatwick Express as that is only one drawback out of so many advantages, you will no doubt still find a place to put your suitcase and for only a 30 minute journey it is not that bad. The Gatwick Express does not stop at any stations, it is a direct route from Victoria - Gatwick. You also have another train leaving to Gatwick but this does stop at certain stations to let people off and the trip takes around 45 mins.
Being a Londoner the Gatwick Express suits me fine, travelling has never been easier and on my return flight from abroad the Gatwick Express takes me back to the heart of central London (Victoria). Catch a black cab and straight home. No need to spend money on parking, petrol and more importantly I avoid the traffic congestion. Not nice if you arrive in London at 3.00pm and feel tired from a long trip. So like my title suggests " Sit back and let the train take the strain"..........
Thanks for the reads, hope you enjoyed the op ............
Advantages: Fast, Clean, buy tickets on the train, with cash, credit card, switch, delta, amex not solo or visa electron. 24hrs, free porters, Disadvantages: Lack of luggage space (which is being modified for the future)
...the beginning of the year Gatwick Express recieved the majority of there new Juniper (Electric Trains) 8 in total, at any one time they run 7 trains between the airport and victoria.
After many comments from Tourist's and regular commuters on the lack of Luggage space they have recently taken several of the trains out of service to be modified to a higher standard.
they also noted that then new trains were a bit bumpy on certain parts of the track ... ...use the service often and gatwick express staff before they are in the customer spotlight have extensive training in dealing with disabled customers.
all new trains are equiped with wheelchair ramps x2 1 at each end of the trains and there is no need to pre-book this help as all staff are visible when you are nearing the train.
Unlike most Train services Gatwick Express staff are on the platforms 13&14 at victoria to meet and greet customers and ...

...used this direct train to Gatwick for the past 8 months to and from work, I think I'm in a good position to write about the Gatwick Express. The Gatwick Express is one of the Airport Express trains that runs from London to Gatwick. The other 2 Express trains are the Heathrow Express (from London Paddington to Heathrow) and Stanstead Express (from London Liverpool Street station).
The Gatwick Express is a train that runs directly from London Victoria ... ...from Gatwick Airport to London Victoria. The journey time is 30 minutes. The trains run every 15 minutes at 00, 15, 30, and 45 minutes past each hour until 2345 from Victoria, and 05, 20, 35,50 minutes past the hour until 0050 from Gatwick, so if you miss one then you don't have to wait too long for the next one. Throughout the night the service runs every hour. The prices for standard class are: Single - £10.50

Advantages: very quick, comfort is good, trains are regular Disadvantages: none
...the airport. The airport was Gatwick and I had heard of local trains that go through Gatwick but I had also heard of the Gatwick Express. I went on the website to have a look and from the picture the comfort looked good and also it seemed very posh for a train going back and forward through London.
On the day of my trip I got off the plane and purchase my tickets. After 9:30am you can get a day pass which is cheaper, I think it is called a Cheap ... ...you use it for the Gatwick Express but also it has unlimited travel on the London Underground.
When getting on mthe train I was impressed by the cleanliness and comfort. There were plenty of seats and it takes a lot of people. So many got on and still no one was standing. There are some seats with tables and in two's some seats face forward and some back. There are newer trains and older ones, I went on both. A train is on the platform at Gatwick ...

...is brilliant from Victoria to Gatwick in about 30 minutes with trains running evry 15 minutes. The trains are nice with plenty of space for luggage and is well organised. The tickets are reasonable for such a quick service and can be bought on the train so no looking for change or the right currency while running for a train! There is a buffet service on board but as the journey is so quick there is no need for it. I would use this service again ...

Advantages: Convinient service Disadvantages: Uncomfortable trains
The original Gatwick express provided an excellent service. Quarter hourly services from Gatwick Airport to London Victoria and back. The trains were originally formed from ex-Intercity coaching stock and an electric locomotive. The ride was smooth, and many people enjoyed travelling this way.
At the moment Gatwick Express are replacing their old stock with new electric multiple units. Apart from looking strange, these trains are not half as good ... ...much easier.
In an attempt to make the service seem more up to date, Gatwick Express have reduced the quality of it. I find it more comfortable to travel by standard trains to Victoria now, rather than get the Gatwick Express that travels rougher than the standard slam-door train. ...

Advantages: Pleasant Staff, Good Customer Service, Nice Breakfast Disadvantages: Expensive
also room for the guest staying for a short break. The food was delicious and the breakfast was plentiful with a range of choice for the continental breakfast. The food was fresh and tasty. It was served at the correct temperature and filled me up for the whole morning. You could eat as much or as little as you wanted and nobody would give you any hassle or rush you. The juice was fresh and tasty and it wasn't out of a carton. There was so much choice and everyone seemed to be enjoying the breakfasts.

Advantages: Good access links, Good facilities Disadvantages: none
People may complain about this country but one thing you can say is we have pretty good airports and Gatwick as Londons number two airport is no exception. The airport is well served by road and rail links with the M23 providing the main arterial road link and the Gatwickexpress service providing high speed rail links to London. There are ample parking facilities and for anyone using GAtwick as a holiday departure point there are a number of off site car parks offering competative weekly rates with complementary bus service too and from your terminal(Gatwick Parking and BCP are two I have used). SInce the second terminal opened a few years ago I find that the airport is less congested - you just have to make sure you know which terminal you are leaving from. Inside the check in facilities are sopacious and well organised. There are ...
Advantages: Accessibility, Accomodation, Amenities Disadvantages: Not every airline features, quite high Airport Tax
Being the UK's second largest airport, London Gatwick has the job of catering for the overflow from Heathrow and does it very well indeed. This is an outline of what Gatwick offers.
LOCATION/ACCESSIBILITY
The name London Gatwick is slightly misleading because it is not in London at all. It is in Crawley, West Sussex and just on the border of Surrey. The GatwickExpress train is a mere 30 minutes trip from London Victoria and there are also connections to the airport from destinations such as Brighton, Southampton and Bristol. Gatwick is off the M23 which connects to the M25 and is normally Ok for traffic. Parking is not too bad and is easy to get the monorail over to either terminal
ACCOMODATION
Gatwick, like most airports, provides accomodation just outside the main terminals, North and South. There is a range and the most ...
