Everyday I wake up, and I think about my origin, my mother and father were both born in Bangldesh, and I have only been there twice in my life. Both times seeing things that have really changed me and the way I think. I have to say I am a very vain person, I raise up to buy Gucci purses and I want all the nicest perfumes in my collection (latest one would be dior addict ar givenchy both smell divine!) but I don't really think that there are thousands and thusands of people suffering in Bangladesh. The Gucci purse I want is about 150 pounds, but in bangladesh a yearly income is less than that. It makes me sick yo the stomach to think all the times I have moaned that I don't have enough or my friends get more than me, when there is people in Bangladesh, just wanting the smallest bit of bread or just a penny for food. My father says that the average wage for a poor person is around about 5 pounds a month, they have to live on 5 pounds, when they have a famiy to support? It's just disgusting. Whats worse is the government of the UK only give 0.3% to charity, for the whole wide world, so Bangladesh relies on people like us to give donations. Being a muslim, you have to five charity, so my father has to give a certain amount of his yearly income to charity, but that is not enough... Bangladesh relies on us, and I personally feel it is my fault that I cannot make it better. Right now there are severe floods, and Bangladesh is suffering so much, houses are being broken away, so many more people are on the streets. There was 4 days continuous rain, my Nan said because she lives there, and the state of Bangladesh cannot get better.
When I went over there, in 1998, as soon as our plane landed in Sylhet (a city) and we were in the airport, we were bombarded by local poor people, jut looking at how they were begging, made me feel so bad. We found that at my Nan's house, because it is so big and posh looking, attracts beggers every morning, even where not that rich to give money to them, but we can't turn them down, so we give them a bowl of rice, hoping it would be enough to feed them.
I can't make you give money to Bangladesh, or even feel sympathy for the poverty that strikes them but I can make a plea. Please if you find some way in which to help them, do it. Thankyou. I would not recommend it as a holiday, I go with my family to see our relitives but it is not a tourist area at all. And I went for 6 months, it's hard to get a ticket back, so yo should try to book a return if you are going, but I doubt you would get one. Ticket price is very expensive.

Sorry for the low rating, but I felt the reivew was perhaps in the wrong place. General information about Bangladesh should be more about the country in general. I thought as your title was where I come from I might get a real insight into a society I know very little about. Yes it is sad that the world is injustly unbalanced, but unfortunately that is how life is. Within the UK itself there are many levels of wealth and some who really require money themselves. I am originally French, but I would never expect the British Government to spend money on France!
