If you want to memorable dream holiday, relax, unwind, and soak up the azure ocean, and the Barbadian ambience.

There is no place like it. Choose to fly with Virgin Atlantic and enjoy your journey into newly refurbished Grantly Adams Airport, and be ready for a stunning break of a lifetime.

BARBADOS FACTS

Barbados is naturally rich in water & land sports so whether you fancy Scuba Diving off the East Coast or trying your hand at Gold at Sandy Lane you will be impressed with the quality of things to do for all ages.

My love of Barbados spans back many years, parents, family and friends, its a progressive island that is forever changing but one thing that stays true is the culture.

Barbadians are friendly english speaking people who are proud of their Cricket as they are proud their Horse Racing at the Garrison, Jockey's from all over the world ride there, so don't be surprised if you rub shoulders with the rich and famous, like Michael Bolton, Stephen Owen, Rod Stewart, Cal Williams, Sir Garfield Sobers, West Indian Cricket team, Cliff Richards, and Jodie Kidd & family, with so much cultural activities and art you get to style your holiday to suit yourself whether it be a quiet one on a beach for two weeks or an adventurous one where you explore the island

Couples honeymooning are going to be impressed with the level of service and freedom to spend the rest of their honeymoon in luxury whilst having the freedom to discover some great nightlife.

BEACHES

St James has a beautiful coastline and every inch of the beaches are reachable from any point, so your free to roam wherever but you do choose to use the beach umbrellas, chairs etc, remember these are privately owned and a fee will be requested.

West and South East coast is called the Gold Coast (Mullins Bay, Accra Beach, Paynes Bay, Carlisle Bay, Silver Sands, Crane Beach) where the beaches are much calmer than the rugged East Coast (Bottom Bay, Bathsheba, Sam Lords) , always remember safety comes first, the East Coast is not for swimming or taking chances to go for a dip the surf is very high, best viewed from land (Bathsheba is an old favourite of the locals often frequented as the Sunday afternoon place to be in the late 50's).

A bit of history: Sam Lord was an pirate who ship-wrecked other pirates and recovered their possession taking the riches upto to his estate and eventually established himself on hoardes of piracy.

WHERE TO VISIT

Visit St Lucy in the North and the breath-taking beaches of the South Coast, or the catching the glimpse of the Fishermen at Oistins. Or keep with the clubbing scene at St Lawrence Gap in Christchurch.

VALUE FOR MONEY

To make your holiday really memorable, save money and go for half board, and taste the delicacies of Bajan gourmet from the 'street van sellers' the portions are big and you get to spend most of holiday enjoying the best of 12 Parish's (St Lucy, St James, St Phillips, St Michaels, St Peter's, Christchurch, St George, St Joseph, St Thomas, St Andrews, St John.) all of this can be visited in a day.

If you really want to see the island, plan to take in two parish's a day and discover the real Barbados. Travelling by the local bus is 1.5 barbados dollar for any length journey equivalent to about 50p sterling, now thats amazing.

TRANSPORT

Temporary Driving Licences is 5 dollars, and they drive on the left. Private taxis are expensive and the normal taxis take upto 5 people for 1 standard fee, so get out there meet people and have some fun. Buses are in abundance and are 1.5 dollar for a flat fee, this is even better to way to explore, sometimes crowded, but then so is London Underground.

FOOD

Food is less expensive if you plan to go halfboard or if you can afford full board, if you plan to do self-catering cost of food in the supermarket is high, Salad, Fruit & Vegetables is 3 times what it cost in England. Best value meals is the street van vendors.

BEST OF BARBADOS

Best time to visit is the month of July 'Kadooment' carnival / Cropover festival, Barbados is alive with month long entertainment, music and dancing.

Oistins Fish festival in April
Holetown festival is in February
December is the hottest season

Yacht Racing and Afternoon Teas

Jolly Roger 'old pirate ship entertainment'

Flower Garden 'some of the most exotic plants in the world' soaking up the scenery of gullies.

Harrison Cave 'underground cave'

Bridgetown 'capital of Barbados' still has it original building features dating back from its colonial history.

Banks Beer 'Barbados finest' and infamous Cockspur Rum (visit the Mount Gay Factory and take home a souvenir of Rum minatures and learn some interesting facts about the history of Rum and Sugar)

25 bardados dollar departure tax is mandatory, so keep some money spare t get off the island or
be stuck ... not a bad thing you can enjoy your holiday all over again.

Barbados is not a backpackers holiday, nor can you compare it to a budget Spanish holiday, if this is what you want, then you'll not enjoy yourself, after travelling 8 hours on a flight, the most you want is a bit of luxury in your rented apartment or in a hotel.

You can happily live on 20 pounds a day or less and when you days are not filled with adventure and more relaxing, you need not spend anything except for the odd Rum punch or two.

No resort compounds, freedom to go when, wherever you want.

My experience of Barbados is from a Barbadian perspective and as an avid traveller.
