I have family in barbados and I thought a review on the non tourist side of barbados and places most people never get to see would be helpful. Barbados is a very beautiful and laid back island and along with the tried and tested tourist attractions there are very many places you cannot miss on a visit the first of these is Oistins Bay at the south of the Island, there is a beautiful beach here called Miami Beach (not that one) mainly used by locals but everyone is welcome, it is split into two with the rougher water coming in on the west this side can be used for boogie(body) boarding which can be hired or just lounging. Both boards and loungers can be hired here for just $10 Bd dollars. On Friday nites Oistins really comes to life where the streets are blocked off and a weekly street party takes place there are loads of great inexpensive bars to drink at as well as fish bars(restaurants) where you can sit and enjoy locally caught and cooked produce for very low prices. Regular visitors to the Island will no doubt know about Oistins and once visited it's a place never forgotten. Another great beach on the Island is Bathsheba on the east coast, in St Josephs. There are many local restaurants and bars here to visit and the water is always very warm, I have been many times and never seen it crowded and it's a great place to go to just escape the hustle and bustle of hotel beaches. The one tourist attraction I would recommend highly is the Animal Flower cave at the north point of the Island it has beautiful flowers which close over when you approach them, aswell as cave paintings. The water sometimes enters a hole in the side of the cave as the water is very rough here it is near the point where the Atlantic meets the Carribean, which is a great spot for watching surfers. The guides are very friendly and also funny. This may not impress everyone but Billy Joel filmed a very famous video here, I wont say which.

Advantages: Hot weather, small island gives easy access to all areas, beautiful scenery and theres so much to do and see Disadvantages: The sea is very rough down the eastern coast, you get the occasional local on the beach near to beach side restaurants/bars trying to get you to buy them drinks, some places are expensive
