The beach at Boracay is rated one of the top ten in the world, and it deserves it. The sand is pure white and clean as a whistle.
The Philipeans in general is ,perhaps ,the best kept secret in the far east, a great place to vacation, friendly, warm very very cheap and everyone speaks English.
Boracay is a small island about 30mins flight from Manila (flight about £40 return). the airport is on a larger island a 10 min boat ride on a local outrigger gets you to the island proper.
There are a large number of large hotels that take the form of beach resorts, usually with individual carbana style suits set in large well kept grounds with all the sports and at least 2 pools in house. I last stayed at the MGM resort and it was first class, large living room with TV,video plus attached fully fitted kitchen, huge bedroom and all for about £45 per night !!!!
The very long beach is fronted by a sandy foot traffic only road that fronts the main hotels plus over 200 restarunts, all first class (like most food places in the phills) featuring food from all over the world but for my money the best styles are Japanese,Thai and the local Philipino dishes. A four star meal in a clean 4 star place will set you back about £30, for 2 !! with drinks !!!
There is a good shopping mall ,open air and more like a high street, with more food places as well as clothes shops and local crafts. Dive shops abound to serve the top rated diving available in the island.
The island is small, rent an ATV and drive round it in about an hour or grab a passing tricycle taxi and get wisked along to your destination for about 50p. There are very few cars on the island which makes it extra special.
As well as the popular divingschools and boat dive centers all the water sports can be found with ease and very cheap, kite boarding, jet ski and sailing are all there. We took a large motor outrigger with full crew and guide for a half day snorkle and surounding island trip which was first class and cost about £10 for the lot.
At night the place comes alive with many clubs and bars, there is no trouble and the girls are,of course, the prettiest in the world. (my view)
There is a golf course but its expencive, plenty of tennis and badminton or you can just lay on the pure white sand have an expert massage and wish you were there for ever.
The sunsets are amazing, we rented a large local style sailboat and crew to go out and watch the sunset from the sea and it was fantastic, Another £10 well spent.
Weather is pretty good all year but dec to feb is best, although its more crowded at that time, a lot of Russians arrive about Xmas.
Bottom line is, in other places in the world with a beach like this you WILL pay 10 times as much for travel, rooms and food and it will NOT be as good. go online and look at the photos you will be amazed, I love Boracay and I love the Phills.
