During the WINTER it is a world class ski resort. With an average snowfall of 29 feet. (To bad mother nature wasn't so generous this past winter!) Fernie is friendly to everyone, the expert skier/snowboarder, to the beginner, and even to those who don't want to be on the slopes. There is horse-drawn sleighrides, torchlight run & BBQ, snowshoe or cross country ski tours, snowmobiling, nature tours, ice fishing and wildlife viewing, helicopter tours, and tons of ski/snowboard tours and clinics. For families there's a daycare, and kid's activity night. For those looking for more there is spa and fitness facilities too. In the evenings there's fine dining, a movie cinema, and many pubs.
During the SUMMER it is an undiscovered paradise! This world class resort is a lot of fun in the summer too. If you enjoy mountain biking this is the place for you. Did you know that they run a lift in the summer that you can put your bike on, so you only have to pedal down the mountain. (You can pedal up if you really want to!)The lift is a great way to start a hike up the mountain and the scenery is breath taking. Don't mountain bike? They offer clinic to teach you. Still don't fancy it? There is other things to do, horseback riding, river rafting, kayak trips, helicopter tours, summer kids camps, and tons more!
And all this is at your back door.
All the people I met during my year in Canada were so friendly. And as an employee at the Resort I met tons of the locals, and tons of travellers. Fernie is a popular destination, but its not as busy as Whistler or Banff. And it has a very relaxing atmosphere. I WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE!
