I am disappointed with the review made by the people above...needless to say I am a bruneian so before i start, i must say i will try not to be biased!!!...
For me holiday is a time when we can spent doing activities that we usually do not have time to pursue. So there are trips for partying, shopping and relaxing.
If what you are looking for is drunken nights and partying at the clubs then you might as well do not bother coming to brunei. What you can do is to change your destination to...Ibiza, perhaps?...
I mean if what you are looking in a country of your holiday is the availability of alcohol then Brunei is definitely not the suitable holiday destination. Don't you find it boring to see stuff that you can see back home?
What I am trying to say is Brunei might not have the drinks and not a shopping heaven like SIngapore but what we can offer is the relaxing type of holiday.
Brunei is lucky because we still have large parts of the country covered with the rainforest. We also have few beaches. There is also a very affordable trip to Ulu Temburong where you can see the virgin forest and observe the flora and fauna which most probably wont exist anywhere else.
The amazing Empire Hotel and Country Club which is strategically situated next to the Jerudong beach will make all your problems disappear alas for a few days you spend there. Again the hotel is not exceedingly expensive when compared with other 5 star hotel around the world. The golf course was also designed by Jack Nicklaus. And also few minutes from the hotel is our famous Theme park, Jerudong park. It is not free anymore but for a mere 5 brunei dollars that is equal to 2 pounds you can play all the rides!
For a chance to see brunei in its festive mood, arrange your trip so it coincides with the celebration of the Sultan's birthday (15th July). This is a truly big celebration in Brunei where our small city (or town), Bandar Seri Begawan will come alive where the roads from the city centre leading to the Palace will be decorated with elaborate lightings.
Also just adjacent to the city is, what is dubbed the 'Venice of Asia', the Kampong Ayer or the water village. I have been to Venice and I must say there some truth in that because the huge 'village' (i prefer to call it settlement) housed the many handicrafts products of Brunei. Just like Murano with their Glass and a village in the Kampong Ayer with their brass products. To make a further comparison is the water taxis/bus, although I better warn you that the water buses in Brunei move at a much faster speed than the vaporetto. (sp)...
So people give Brunei a chance. It is a hot country true but not to an obscene 45 degrees! All 18 years of my life i spent in Brunei, I never experienced that temperature. Thank god. Just like London where I live now is great with the museum...AND shopping!!!But as I said, the trip to Brunei would be truly special if you are making it as a relaxing holiday.
Just to finish this review is a word in malay...'Selamat Datang' which means Welcome!.
