History Cameroon got its independence in 1960 and it is a country located in Central Africa. With a population of about 17million people the country is bilingual(French and English)with the french language being spoken by 80 percent of the people.
Potential The country is rich in natural resources;oil(in the bakassi area and off coast of Limbe)timber(part of the Congo basin)but agriculture still plays a major part in the livehood of the people. The country exports coffee, cocoa and coffee as its major cash crops.Locally a lot of foodstuff that feeds the central african region comes from this nation.
Transportation Getting
around had improve in some ares of the country such as Douala and Yaunde. When you arrive the country you either get in through the Nsimalen Airport in the nation's capital which is in Yaounde or through the Douala international Airport which is located in the economic capital of the country.Getting around most of Yaounde and Douala is relatively easy, most of the roads there are tarred.Other cities or towns that you want to visit that have good roads include Limbe and Buea, both cities are in the South WestProvince of the Country.
Nightlife If you want nightlife the places to be would be first of all Douala.Around the Akwa part of the city there are lots of nightclubs that you can frequent. The music would be mostly makossa music and occasionally some western music.Limbe has a couple of nice nightclubs(Calyso night club),so does Yaounde. If you are not into clubbing and you just need a place to have a drink and eat decent food at night there are plenty of places in all the towns. You would see people in bars and off-licences eating and drinking late into the night.Try out the roasted foodstutt(fish, chicken, meat)with some fried plantains or potatoes).Beer is relatively cheap. Most of it is brewed locally but you can also get Heineken and Guinness in most of the drinking places.
Touristic Attractions. There are many, the problem is that some areas would be very challenging to get into especially during the months of June through November when there is the rainy season.Waza Park is a wildlife park in the norhern part of the country. There are some attractive animals there but it is a rough road trip to get there. You can drive around the city of Yaounde and you would see some nicely designed round-abouts and parks. In the town of Buea there is the mt.Cameroon which is a most see if you visit the country. It is easy to get to Buea once you get into the country. The road is good.Limbe is a nice city located in the coast of the atltantic ocean. There is a botanical garden in the town and there are also a great number of natural dark earth beaches.Check out the SEME beach in Mile 11 Limbe. There is a sand beach in a town called Kribi which is located close to the city of Douala.
Security Get somebody to move around with you that knows the towns. There is no emergency police service that you can call and get help right away.Dress casually and try not to act as a total stranger and you would be okay. Most of the inhabitants of the country are okay and they would not just attack a stranger.Carry your indentification papers with you for there are checks by policemen and gendarmes as you move from one town to another.
Lodging There is a Hilton Hotel in the nations capital of Yoaunde and another great hotel there is the Mt Febe Hotel if you have money to spend. In the city of Douala there are a lot more hotels to choose from. Most of them would be in Akwa,Bonanjo or Bonamoussadi. In all of the other towns talk to somebody that is familiar with town and they would point you to the right hotels.
Best time to visit. During the months of November through May of each year there is what is referred to here as the dry season. That would be the best time to visit most places.Even though the roads in the cities are tarred there are areas where the road is all earth. If you attempt to go places during the rest of the year, you can do it but you would need a powerfull 4x4 vehicle and at times they too get stuck in the mud
