If you are looking for a different holiday destination then may I suggest Croatia.
It's beaty may have been sullied by the recent event and civil strife that has affected the whole region but the people are eager to make amends and make your holiday there one to remember.
It may be wise to remember that hardly anyone is travelling there because of the recent event, but rest assured that those days have gone and is is still one of the best and quietest places to visit in Europe. The beaches are almost desolate but the beauty in quietitude is something to behold.

Advantages: Easily accessible by car from Europe, still value for money, lovely beaches Disadvantages: everytime you tell your friends you've been there you'll have to answer the 'but what about the war?' question :-)
