Until July 2000 i would have said steer clear of Croatia-after all isn't it all war-torn? And why would anyone want to go there? Then i found the answer. Croatia is a beautiful country, with majestic mountains, breathtaking scenery and crystal clear seas. The coastline which stretches along most of the country is one of the most beautiful. Croatia is home to thousands of islands, of which about 60 are inhabited. During my visit i stayed in the hotel Soline in Brela, a small fishing village on the dalmatian coast. It is well worth a visit. So too is Baska Voda, only 15 minutes walk along the beach. The tourist town of Markarska is bustling with people during the summer months, but be warned, it is not for those who simply want a relaxing holiday. Mnay hotels offer traditional croatian cusine, entertainment, and the weekly gala dinners are not to be missed! In the area there are few reuglar buses, but the local taxi drivers have taken to mini bus driving, and this unofficial service is very frequent. The food is based on seafood, although a wealth of pizzas and other well-known food are also available at the many cafes. Advantages: A stupendous nature. only! SO MANY CIGARETTES IN LESS! Disadvantages: so many kms afoot but they don't feel him that to the reentry in the hotel!

Advantages: Easily accessible by car from Europe, still value for money, lovely beaches Disadvantages: everytime you tell your friends you've been there you'll have to answer the 'but what about the war?' question :-)
