I went to Cyprus this year with my family (this includes a 4 year old. I was extremely excited by the prospect of hitting the Med. again. I lived in Greece for a year as an English teacher and love the relaxed attitude to life and the warmth, among many things. We stayed in Pafos, flying into the nearest airport which was handy. The hotel was called The Kefalonitis and we did self-catering, (although breakfast was included). The hotel had leisure facilities which was good because the local beach was a dump. Pafos itself had pockets of beauty, like the cliffside view from the marketplace but on the whole it was full of roadworks and the food in the restaurants was mediocre to appalling. Do not be tempted to try the Chinese cuisine - just take my word for it. The coastal road from Pafos in both directions was picturesque and we found a magnificent beach called something like the General's beach. We took a short cruise out of Pafos harbour but the rep just pointed out the many hotels being built and told us how many rooms they had. I have to say that whilst the holiday was pleasant enough, I was disappointed by Cyprus. The roads are excellent and the Troodos mountains refreshing and pretty. Nikosea has an air of antiquity and sadness with its winding streets and border patrol. If you are going for golden sands, delicious food and magnificent relics, redirect to other Med. locations. I don't think we'll be going back.
