Before even beginning this review of our recent holiday, I must preface it with the fact that my wife works as a cruise consultant for MyTravel plc, and so we got a heavily-discounted price for this holiday of a lifetime: consequently any overall holiday cost indication would be irrelevant. The first Sofitel hotel was opened in Strasbourg, France in 1964. Now Sofitel, part of the hotel brand of Accor, has 180 hotels in 53 countries around the world. They employ approximately 12,500 people in different countries around the world. The one that I am going to review is the one in Hurghada, Egypt and it is built on forty hectares in the Arabian desert and has the luxury of its own private beach by the very clear and lively Red Sea. Egypt is a magnet for travellers and tourists, one of the few countries within the North African and Middle Eastern regions that is well and truly open to foreigners. It combines culture and ancient history with sandy deserts, magnificent beaches, great diving and snorkeling opportunities, a wide-range of local handcrafts and it's also a very affordable place to holiday. At the far Southern tip of the Sinai, the desert peninsula of Ras Mohammed edges out into the Red Sea. Here the craggy plateau disintegrates into broad sandy beaches separated by rocky outcrops, which drop off into rich coral reefs whose brilliantly coloured reef fish attract barracuda and sharks. Along the Nile A Dream Egypt was a place I had always wanted to visit. Since I was a small child I dreamed of visiting this mystical and ancient land. I was brought up a catholic and Egypt played an integral part of history lessons and bible study. During my teenage years I read about discoveries of new tombs and the unearthing of new artefacts.
