Greece is such a marvelous country, infact my favourite country in europe. This has been a favourite holiday destination of mine sine childhood. I have visited numerous islands, Athens and Northern greece.
Firstly i must mention the greek people they are very friendly when you get outside the main resorts, not that they are not friendly there but out in the sticks they are even more friendly. Especially if you are fortunate to have blone hair they dont see blondies very much and treat you really special, I have been brought many drinks by the locals because of this.
Most of the countryside in greece and the islands is dedicated to olive groves and makes for a nice drive in the country for a picknick or afternoon stroll. The beaches are very clean in all areas i have been and are generally very sandy. the water is clean and you do not see the poluition you see in other countrys.
Greek food is absolutely gorgeous I reccomend a few dishes especially the local fresh caught fish inparticualr the swordfish. Souvlaki is a very nice lanb dish for those who are not so adventourous. for lunch time snack either try bread and cheese from the local bakery or try giros, similar to a donner kebab but much nicer and not spicy at all.
My favourite part of greece for relaxing is just south of thesaloniki, this is where all the greeks go on holiday and is very nice and quiet. Corfu is my favourite island havnt been for a few years but it was the least commercial of all the islands i have visited.
Athens is a marvelous capital with features such as the accropolis and the old and new olyumpic stadiums. Athens is a very historical city and deffinately well worth a visit to see the ancint sites. I am particulary looking forward to 2004 when i am going to watch the olympic games in athens the home of the olympics, i think it will be the best and most appropriate of the modern olympics.
The oly disadvantage about greece is the primative sewage systems and having to avoid the local tap water. These are just little things which are overshadowed by such a marvelous country.

I last visited Greece many years ago and never wanted to come home. It took me weeks to settle down. We stayed in Nea Makri (probably wrong spelling, but it's a long time since I was there). Your opinion brought it all back many thanks. Ann
