Greece and its many islands is THE perfect place for a fabulous holiday. I speak from experience as I have visited corfu(twice),rhodes, zante(twice)and the peloponees although I have been to many other european destinations Greece always draws me back.
I suppose it depends on what you are looking for from your week or two in the sun.I personally like to unwind put my feet up and forget about the world for a couple of weeks every year.
You dont need to be wealthy as for little more than £200 each is all youll need to pay on a late deal leaving you loads of money over for eating and drinking well while you are in paradise
Choose one of the many small specialist tour operators who deal just with greece as they always seem to have the best villas and apartments and are the most reasonable on price.
I always choose somewhere on the quiet side with a few tavernas and local bars well away from 24 hour "british john bull pubs" and the sort of people who go to them.If I want a pub full of 18 year olds getting drunk I can do that in my local town without having to travel to a beautiful island to do it.
The next requisite is to be within walking distance from the beach and tavernas and with a balcony to the apartment to sit on after coming home in the evening.
What could be more romantic sitting gazing into your lovers eyes as the sun goes down, some relaxing greek music playing in the background. The candles the wine the music just perfect.
Greece and its many islands is perfect for this as life is run at a very slow pace and every greek person I have met and got to know is very friendly and just loves to talk about their particular island.
Another tip is to eat in the taverna the locals eat in as they know the best food and prices and get to know them not sit in your huddle of other english tourists untrustful of johnny foreigner.
Once you have experienced the food, the atmosphere and the people not forgetting the beautiful beaches I guarantee you will like me go back many times.

Excellent op - I could just picture myself sipping a nice cool lager in the quietness of the hot nights there.I first went to Greece (Crete) when I was just 16 and I love it as much now as I did then. Greece is a haven of pleasure, good weather, good food and friendly locals. I do however, travel to Cyprus more now as my boyfriend is based in the British Army there. Cyprus is a very nice island too and I know I will visit both Greece and Cyprus many more times in my life time. Great op. Thanks Paula

A nice introduction to this beautiful country, but unfortunately lacking some detail. Maybe you can update this some time to include some information on sights to be visited. I personally prefer the mainland to the Islands, far less touristic and better suited for culture travel. Cheers, Hans
