For years Hong Kong has been a hugely popular holiday destination for western tourists and I finally had the opportunity to travel there in April 2004. This wasn't going to be my first time in Hong Kong as I had been when I was around 8 years old. Since I was only very young I couldn't really appreciate the atmosphere and cultural value of Hong Kong. The reason for my visit to Hong Kong was partly for pleasure but also because I was attending a wedding. ... ...family also hails from there. My time of travel was just before my gcse exams and I was pretty sick of school work so I thought it would be nice to have a break prior to my exams. For many years Hong Kong was under British colonial rule up until 1996/7 when it was returned to Chinese control by John Major's Conservative Government. Hong Kong is located around South east China surrounded by deep waters. The surroundings and scenery are dominated by ...

Lights, Action, Old World vs. New World, Shopping! These were all the things that I had in my mind as I prepared for my 4 day visit to Hong Kong. All that I knew about Hong Kong came from movies that stared Jackie Chan or James Bond. Was it a Fairy Tale illusion??
~Arrival~
Upon landing at Hong Kong International airport, I prayed that the pilot would make sure and turn the correct way as the airport is located on a reclaimed island mass. The water's ... ...quick and easy. There was the standard immigration card to fill out which was given to us before we even boarded the plane. So, I had it filled out before we left Singapore. We found the arrivals hall MASSIVE!! If you do not have prebooked transport to your hotel, don't worry as there are a large variety of services offered from standard bus to limousine services. As our transport was part of a package, we checked in with our rep and then proceeded ...

Hong Kong Review ofGeneral: Hong Kongby

Advantages: Clean, safe city which is really alive. Disadvantages: It's a long, long flight.
Hong Kong
Hong Kong offers so much for the visitor. Those who are seeking a clean, safe venue for their holiday, where you can stroll - even late at night - with nobody approaching you; choose from a huge selection of modern hotels; eat at a wide choice of restaurants, and have an excellent modern transport system will not be disappointed. For the kids there are their favourites - MacDonalds, KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants.
How to get there: There ... ...book a flight and hotel online. Try Travelbag, Opodo, Thomas Cook and any of the airlines - Cathay Pacific, KLM Royal Dutch Airline, Virgin Atlantic, Quantas, British Airways all have flights every day. If you are planning well in advance, check the prices every day as they change frequently. Almost always you will find one or more of the airlines have special offers, and again these prices change from day to day. The most I have paid for a return ...

Advantages: Great shopping and more culture than you could shake a stick at! Disadvantages: Some things quite expensive
When I decided on Hong Kong as a holiday destination the main reason was that it was kind of in the middle between Australia, (where I am) and good old Blighty (where my friend and travelling companion is). Well I say in the middle, it's a 9 hour flight from Sydney and a total of 15 hours for my friend who would be travelling down from Manchester, going through Heathrow and then a short stop in Dubai. I don't really know how we settled on Hong Kong, ... ...I was keen enough to go it wasn't on the top of my places to go list. As the trip got closer, I bought the guide books and searched the Web and began to realise we'd made a dam good choice! Getting There
Easy peasy for me. Direct from Sydney to Hong Kong with Virgin Atlantic cost me $1080 AUD which is about £415 at the current rate of exchange. I wasn't very impressed with the Virgin plane, for such a long flight they used an Airbus A320 which is ...

One of the most annoying things about the fact that my parents left Hong Kong is that now I have nowhere to stay for free when I pop up there. Of course, there are always friends to stay with, but considering that the average HK flat is the size of an... more
