I am an adventurous "Granny" constantly being told by my daughters to "act my age" I love to travel to far flung places where we always have adventures. I also design files for my plotter cutter whenever I have spare time.

If you have not experienced the sights and sounds of Jamaica then you have not travelled. Get out of your hotel and meet the people. If you are travelling to Jamaica then consider the programme below, you wont regret it. There is a programme which you can join before leaving home which aims to match you to a family with similar job, hobbies etc. The programme is called Meet The People and is run by the Jamaican Tourist board. Meetings can be from 1 outing to as many as you can fit in if you and your family get on. You are also given the option to meet another family as the tourist board telephone you after the initial meeting to discuss how things went and give you the option. You meet up with the family and they take you out either socially or you can even go to work for a day. we were teamed up with the oldest practicing Justice of the Peace in the West Indies, (He is 88) and his wife. Our initial thoughts were not at all positive but believe me we had a whale of a time. Our host family were the loveliest people you can expect to meet anywhere. The wife took us shopping, to places where tourists dont even know about, in fact anywhere we wanted to visit we were taken, We even visited the Husband in his workplace and were introduced to his staff, then lunched in a top hotel in the area. The family rallied all of their friends and relatives and arranged a party for us at their home, collecting us from the hotel we were a bit apprehensive and arrived at the house to be greeted by a house full of very friendly faces. The evening went off extremely well and we then recieved invites to Tea and dinner at other homes all over the country. They in turn picked us up from the hotel and showed us what they thought was the best of their country. Over the space of the month we had so many lovely meals and afternoon teas that we actually put on weight. They are warm friendly people if given the chance and certainly made a huge difference to our holiday. There was a goodbye party the night before we flew home and we have returned to the UK with some lovely friends. Anyone wanting to join the programme got to the Jamaican tourist board website and search for meet the people. They do everything for you, all you have to do is provide the requested information and wait for the phone call to your hotel from the family. All of the participant families are well vetted by the tourist board so this is a very safe way to get out and about. A small gift from home is appreciated (we took harrods biscuits and crystal ornaments) but we had so many new found friends that we ended up buying flowers from from the hotel florist as gifts.
