Hi, you probably know nothing about this country, but that is O.K. It’s a small country with 3.5 million people, another 300000 is somewhere in other countries. Though Lithuania is a small country we are proud of our traditions, capability to keep our language unique and other things. Also we are happy to join NATO, and ES. Such event gives us self- confidence and the world is beginning to know what the word Lithuania means. I think that LT is a great place for sightseeing and for spending your holidays. Let me describe you same places that you should visit, if you are in Lithuania.
First and one of the most famous is the Park of Europe (near Vilnius). Here you can find lots of works of art. They are really very interesting each of it has its own story and a reason of its appearance. The main work of art is the labyrinth made of TV sets that all Lithuania people brought there 5 or 6 years ago. It looks really amazing and there is even a possibility to get lost (besides it is written in the worlds Guineas records book like the biggest labyrinth of TV sets). It would be a shame if you wouldn’t visit the center of the Europe. It is not very interesting, just monument with written coordinates on it, but it is still geographic CENTER OF EUROPE.
Another interesting place you have to see is the crosses hill near town Šiauliai. The hill is like a symbol of faith and the being of people. From the old times it was famous for its sacramentality . There you can see thausands of crosses in one place. Many people tryed to count how many are there, but nobody had ever succed. You can put or hang a your own little cross too.
Vilnius is the capital of Lithuania. Its old town looks really amazing. It is full of various muzeums and churches. The main church is the central Vilnius cathedral in the center of city hall. Another famous museum-place is Gediminas Castle. The castel was destroyed in the past and now jus one tower left. But it symbolizes the whole castle and looks amazing.
Moving to other cities I would like to mention Kaunas and Klaipėda. Kaunas is the place where I live. People say that it is a best place for living. And it is rally peaceful, people are nice and plesant in here, here you can find a beutiful city hall with grand cathedral ( in my opinion it is more amazing than in Vilnius). Klaipėda is the biggest, the most beutiful, and the only one harbour . Personally Klaipeda‘s old town is the most wonderful comparing with Kaunas and Vilnius old towns.
The best part of Lithuania is its west. Lithuania hass 100 km. coastline near the Baltic sea. The main resort is Palanga. Here you can sea thousands of people, sometimes Palanga is called Summer capital. The most beutiful creation of nature that Lithuanians can be proud of is the peninsula NERINGA. It starts from the Kaliningradas (Russia) and ends like a part of Lithuania. The main resort is Nida but there also are Juodkrante, Smiltyne, Purvyne... You have no Idea how picturesque, beutiful and amazing the scenery is. Look around and you will see what creative nature can be. The forest of pines that lasts over all Neringa, Kuršių sea on one side, and The Baltic sea on the other side. There are also lots of unique plants that grows just in Neringa. If you‘ve been dreaming about spending your holidays by savouring the unforgettable charm of the dunes during the sunest. If you dream about hearing the play in pinewoods. If you want to visit culture events. Or, even, get acquainted with unique architecture. And, certainly, taste traditional fresh fish courses. Choose Neringa - the unforgettable corner of the Baltic region for those who love spending their leisure time safely in nature and having fun. Here, there are the most of sunny days in the year ( for some reason clowds bypass Neringa and it rains there rarely). My advice: if you want to have a quite and pieceful holiday go to Neringa in Autumn, there are very few people at that time of year. www.visitneringa.lt
That is just a small part of lithuania, there are much more, but I hope that I‘ve described you the main places.
Advantages: Naturally beautiful, unusually charming Disadvantages: Still a little hung-over from the U.S.S.R era
I was introiduced to Lithuania by my husband, who is a Lithuanian. He lives in the UK but after we got married we decided to visit his homeland in the car via all of the European countries in-between, a kind of road-trip I suppose. I had heard many things about Lithuania from our Lithuanian friends, good and bad, so I really didn't know what to expect.
A little history...Lithuania is the largest and southernmost of three Baltic countries, though ... ...long history of warfare and struggle, which is symbolised in its flag: the yellow top stripe represents the sun; the centre green stripe represents the grass and the bottom red stripe represents blood for the land whch has been so lovingly fought for.
Lithuania established itself as a powerful independant state in its own right (unlike the other Baltic states who were conquered by German crusaders) in the 13th century. After 150 years of continuous ...

Advantages: Beautiful peaceful environment Disadvantages: Don't go here if you want nighclubs!
Lithuania has a fairly short coastline on the Baltic Sea. To the north the coast meets Latvia, and to the south the strange enclave of Kaliningrad - part of Russia but completely cut off from it. I have been told that going to Kaliningrad is like stepping back in time into the Soviet era - but I don't think they are too keen on tourists as they make the visa costs somewhat prohibitive. Although you could offset this cost by flying from Kaliningrad ... ...there as it's classes as an internal flight. Meanwhile, along Lithuania's coast the main feature is the Curonian Spit National Park. This thin spit of land - attached to Kaliningrad at one end, and petering out in the sea off Lithuania the other end, is unique, famous for its sand dunes, its pinewoods, its wildlife, especially elk, and its peaceful clean environment. For some reason the Spit isn't well known in the UK, but attracts lots of German ...

Advantages: Quirky and new Disadvantages: Not easy to get to
Lithuania is one of the places in Europe that is most untouched by the terrible flood of tourists. While it is just as safe in most tourist ways as Western Europe, it also has an "off the beaten track" feel for those who want to see a country that doesn't quite fit the mould. Whilst you can wikipedia all the facts about population and location and so forth, it is a great place to learn about European history from a slightly different angle. The country ... ...just plain bizarre (such as the Frank Zappa statue). It also has some of Europe's nicest beers. Most of the beers you can find in the shop are lagers, but if you look a bit harder, there are plenty of traditional Lithuanian beers that range from being unfiltered to cloudy, from a pristine factory to a beer that is made in an old mans left shoe. Each have their own character and taste. Of course these isn't the only reason to visit the country - it ...

I know that many don't know this wonderful country. It's not what it used to be, it's like a good wine get's better every time I visit it. Same thing as with Vilnius, I wasn't born there I was born in Finland but I feel it's my second homecountry. There's lots of interesting places that even I haven't visited; some of the best places to visit are Vilnius and Trakai. It's pretty safe country now and I have had Salmonella only once, that's the only ...
