Luxembourg might be a small nation wedged quietly in between Belgium, France and Germany, but it is unfairly overlooked most of the time and is very much worth a visit. Passing through this tiny country on the motorway doesn't give you any idea of the treasures on offer in the Mosel Valley, for example - come off at Grevenmacher and follow the road along the river to Remich. You will see some beuatiful scenery, the vines snaking up over the hills and little villages perched on the river bank, a mere stone's throw from Germany. These villages are often host to restaurants and vintners, wine growers whose vineyards are open for tasting, and of course for purchasing the oft-neglected Luxemburg wines - look out for the local sparkling wine known as Cremant... Remich itself is one of the larger settlements along the Mosel, and every weekend in the summer months it plays host to the local charity associations' fetes and festivals on the river bank, events that attract not just local visitors but travellers from Germany and France who come to sample the wine, the beer and the Flamekouche (Flammkuchen in German, lit. 'flame cakes', something similar to pizza but using cream instead of cheese on the base, and liberally sprinkled with Speck, chopped salted bacon). If you're particularly lucky, you may even be subjected to some local music! Luxembourg is by no means a poor country, but going out is certainly reasonably priced and if my experiences are anything to go by, you will be very content indeed with the quality of the food and beverages put before you! They do have their own currency (the Luxembourg franc) but this is tied to the Belgian franc and the two currencies are interchangeable in Luxembourg (many cashpoints only dispense Belgian notes). Many places also accept French francs and German marks as well. Petrol is still cheaper than in the neighbouring countries, but the tax on cigarettes is being brought into line with other nations now, so they are not the money-spinner that they once were! In short, this little corner of Luxembourg is well worth seeing...

Seems to be some discrepancy on fuel price - I'm sure I just read in another article that it is more expensive in Luxembourg than elsewhere - including the UK.
