++++++++++ Introduction ++++++++++
Well, when i arrive in UK, many people ask where i am from and some of the know where is Malaysia and some of the are not. Although i think i and most malaysian know most of UK place and history. So i just tell them where Malaysia is located.
Most of them said 'malaysia is somewhere in asia'... well very smart answer indeed lol :-P but its okay... i like to tell to them about my country. This is also a simple guide to all the ciao member that planning to visit Malaysia.... :-)
++++++++++++++++++++ Location & Climate ++++++++++++++++++++ Malaysia is located in the middle of South East Asia and consists of Malay Peninsular and parts of Borneo Island. The neighboring countries are Thailand at the north, Singapore at the south and surrounded by Indonesian Island between Straits of Malacca and South China Sea.
The climate of Malaysia is usually warm and very humid. And Malaysia will be having a monsoon season every year. But rain can be expected everyday.
++++++++++++++++++++ People & Religion ++++++++++++++++++++ About the people, there are 3 main races live in Malaysia. They are Malay, Chinese and Indian and there are some native populations of Orang Asli, Iban, Murut and others and most of the native population live in Borneo Island that is in Sabah and Sarawak.
There are also some Caucasian and Portugal, Thailand community in this country especially in Malacca and Kelantan. Islam is Malaysia's official religion but non Muslims are allowed to practice their religion freely. Malaysia is well known as one of the most moderate Islamic country among the Islamic world and we as Malaysian really respect other people's religion and the government had also recognize other religion important day as part of the Malaysian holiday in Malaysian annual calendar year. 99.8% of Malays are Muslim, most of Chinese are Buddhism and most of Indians are Hindus. There are also Christian
Chinese and Indian as well as Chinese and Indian Muslim. But usually, in Sabah and Sarawak, most of tribes and native people are practicing their own native religion and some of them had converted to Muslim or Christian.
Most of Malaysian are friendly… that is what my foreign friends told me…
+++++++++++++++++++ Languages +++++++++++++++++++ Bahasa Melayu or Malay Language is Malaysia's official language. English is the second official language and also the main language for business and education. Most of the tourist or foreigners that come to Malaysia don't have any difficulties when speaking to local people.
Other language that is widely spoken is Chinese (Mandarin, Hakka, Hokkien and Cantonese), Indian (Malayalam, Tegulu, Hindi etc.), other tribal language especially in Borneo (Iban, Thais, Murut, Tagalog etc.)
+++++++++++++++++++ Foods! +++++++++++++++++++ MALAYSIAN LIFE IS TO EAT!!! That is what most of my foreign friends that came to Malaysia said to me. EAT EVERY SINGLE MINUTE! Oh my God! I REALLY LOVE IT!!!! Hahaha! For me and most of my foreign friends that came to visit Malaysia, MALAYSIAN FOOD IS DAMM DELICIOUS!!!
Malaysian food is usually full of Malay, Chinese and Indian element. Most of Malay and Indian food are spicy food and Chinese foods are more to steamy and stir fry stuff. But all of them are delicious! YOU CAN TRUST ON ME!!! Usually each state has their own popular dishes and fast foods are available all over the country. And Yes! Malaysia also has Mac Donald, Burger King and all kind of fast food restaurants. 'Thanks' for the people who think our country don't have that such of thing! … but I would like you to try the Malaysian KFC. The taste of Malaysian KFC is 100 times better than other place in Europe! Try the hot and spicy KFC meal…. I bet you will love it! Make sure you try it! And that is why KFC is more popular than Mac Donald in Malaysia.
The prices of most of the food are really cheap, even when you buy at the 5 starhotel or restaurant. But usually the food from the hotel is not as delicious as the one that you can buy at the stall or the food court. But the food at the airport is expensive. I would not recommend you to buy the food there, unless you are really hungry.
+++++++++++++++++++ Transportation +++++++++++++++++++ You can go to Malaysia using Malaysian Airline. For me, the service is very good and very comfortable compared to KLM. The journey takes about 12 hours and there are everyday flights from Heathrow or Manchester to Kuala Lumpur. And you will reach the KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport) that is quite far from the city (2 hours to go to Kuala Lumpur by car if the traffic is good).
But you can take the KLIA Express Train to Kuala Lumpur by just 28 minutes. And when you reach KL by that train, you will arrive at the KL Sentral that is the port of all the railway system in KL that is Monorail, Putra LRT (Tube), Star LRT (Light Rail Train), Komutter Train, and Long Journey Express train to all over Malaysia.
As what I had read from the Reader Digests and see in National Geographic Channel, Malaysia has the best road system in Asia and one of the best highway system. All the place and states are easily reached by road, sea, train and airplane. In the city, taxis, buses, monorail and tube are available for you. I would like to suggest you to use the tube or PUTRA if you want to visit any interesting place in Kuala Lumpur. The cost is not so expensive and very convenience.
If you want to go to other states in Malaysia, airplane is one of the alternatives for you to travel. There is a low cost flight known as Air Asia and the price is really cheap and will be cheaper when you buy the ticket online.
If you want to go travel by bus, the bus system in Malaysia is quite comfortable especially the 'long journey express bus'. It cheap and you can see the scenery as well during the journey.
You

can also rent a car but I would not recommend you to do that especially when you want to travel in the city. Although Malaysian is friendly, then can be f**&$n monster when at the road. Just want to let you know, Malaysian traffic accident rate is one if the highest in Asia. You will also have to pay toll on every roads. Well you know what I mean son :-P +++++++++++++++++++ States in Malaysia +++++++++++++++++++ Malaysia has 16 states including 3 Federal Territories. And Kuala Lumpur is the capital city and Putrajaya is an administration capital. Here I listed all the states in Malaysia State of KELANTAN Darul Naim State of TERENGGANU Darul Iman State of PAHANG Darul Makmur State of JOHOR Darul Takzim (Johore) State of NEGERI SEMBILAN Darul Khusus State of MELAKA Bandaraya Bersejarah (Malacca) State of SELANGOR Darul Ehsan State of PERAK Darul Ridzuan State of PULAU PINANG Pulau Mutiara (Penang) State of KEDAH Darul Aman State of PERLIS Indera Kayangan State of SARAWAK Bumi Kenyalang State of SABAH Negeri Dibawah Bayu Federal Territory of KUALA LUMPUR Federal Territory of PUTRAJAYA Federal Territory of LABUAN
